TikToker left “scared” after finding rows of out-of-date food being sold at gas station

A TikTok user is gaining popularity after sharing a video of a gas station that openly admits to selling food past its expiration date, despite the potential legal issues.

Always check the ‘best before’ date on any food or drinks you buy. Don’t pay full price for items that will expire soon – you shouldn’t have to spend your money on something you can only use for a day or two.

As a shopper, it really bothers me to hear that some stores aren’t careful about expiration dates – some will actually sell you things *after* they’ve supposedly gone bad! It’s not okay, and thankfully, it’s actually against the law in places like Michigan.

Despite this, a Detroit gas station has been caught selling food past its expiration dates, and customers are sharing videos about it on TikTok.

TikTok praise honesty of gas station

In late September, a TikTok user named sexxxiiyyycoco45 shared a video of herself going into a gas station to satisfy a craving for Laffy Taffy. However, when she got to the snack section, she saw a sign.

The TikTok user was shocked to find entire shelves of products labeled ‘out of date but still good.’ They expressed confusion and concern, saying it was ‘crazy’ to see so many items with that label across multiple aisles. They admitted to being both confused and frightened by the situation.

Many viewers, like the TikTok creator, were shocked by what they saw. One person commented, “At least they’re being honest about it, unlike others who don’t say anything.” Another viewer shared, “I was just there recently and overheard someone threatening to complain to the authorities.”

The video has been viewed about 100,000 times and was featured by Detroit’s WGRD. They pointed out that selling food past its expiration date is legally questionable, falling into a “gray area”.

However, there isn’t really a law about selling things that are just past their “best by” dates.
