A TikTok creator in Thailand could face up to six months in prison because his pet lion got loose and injured both an 11-year-old boy and the man who attempted to help him.
I couldn’t believe what I saw on video – it happened on October 4th in Bo Phloi, which is a district in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. It was truly shocking!
A video is circulating online showing a one-year-old female lion, named Mahae Si, escaping into the street. People, including a child, were seen running away as the lion chased them, and screams can be heard in the background.
A young boy was attacked by a lion while walking home around 11 p.m. after playing with friends, according to reports. A 43-year-old man, Sarawut Tokaeo, tried to help and was also injured, receiving a serious leg wound that needed medical attention.
Fortunately, Tokaeo managed to strike the lion repeatedly, which made it let go of the boy. Both Tokaeo and the boy were taken to the hospital, and their conditions are reported as stable.
TikToker’s lion seized after attacking two people
A TikTok creator named Parinya Parkpoom, 32, was filmed running outside when his lion escaped. He paused at the fence, seemingly unsure what to do while neighbors asked him to secure the animal. He finally brought the lion back from a nearby field, but residents have since asked officials to get involved.
Wildlife authorities took Mahae Si into their care and moved her to a conservation center. They plan to transfer her again, this time to a licensed breeding facility for wildlife.
Parinya is now accused of violating Thailand’s wildlife laws, specifically those against releasing or failing to properly contain wild animals. If found guilty, he could face up to six months in prison and a fine of 50,000 baht, which is about $1,300.
Parinya told local news outlets he was surprised by what happened and explained that the incident was an accident. He said it occurred because the lion’s enclosure was under construction.
He said he was sorry for the incident, explaining it was unintentional. He offered to cover the costs of the boy’s medical care and provide financial compensation.
So, apparently you *can* legally own a lion in Thailand if you jump through all the hoops – registration, microchipping, the whole nine yards. But this recent thing with a lion being…well, *around*…has everyone talking again about whether keeping exotic animals as pets is really a good idea here. It’s got people questioning the whole practice, you know?
So, I heard about this crazy thing that happened earlier this year. This YouTuber in Pakistan got caught with a baby lion, which is obviously a huge no-no. But instead of a really harsh penalty, the court made him create twelve videos about animal welfare. Seriously! It’s like they assigned him homework to teach him about taking care of animals. It’s a pretty unusual punishment, but honestly, it might actually do some good.
