TikToker arrested after sending police & fire department to fake emergency for views

A 19-year-old who makes videos for TikTok was arrested after a hoax emergency call caused a significant waste of resources for the police, fire department, and Coast Guard.

A teenager in Blackpool reportedly made a fake emergency call around 2:30 AM on January 13th, seemingly to get more views and likes on TikTok.

Someone called to report a person had gone into the water near the lifeboat station, prompting a 90-minute search.

Police, firefighters, paramedics, the Coast Guard, helicopters, and lifeboat crews launched a major search operation for a person who, it turned out, was never actually there.

TikToker accused of wasting emergency responders’ time with fake emergency

Police arrested 19-year-old Kian King and charged him with wasting police time after no one was found in the water following a search.

Police have charged a man in relation to a fake call that triggered a large emergency response in Blackpool. The response included police, the Coastguard, firefighters, and paramedics, according to a police spokesperson.

After searching for about 90 minutes, it turned out the call was a hoax, likely made to get more attention on a social media account.

The HM Coast Guard in Fleetwood reported that during the search, someone interfered by shining a laser pen at their equipment.

Shining laser pens at aircraft is dangerous and makes it much harder for our pilots to find people who need rescuing, potentially putting lives at risk. It’s really irresponsible to do this. Okay, so this isn’t new – creators messing up and causing real-world issues happens. I remember back in 2023, IShowSpeed actually got a warning from the police – they even threatened to charge him with a felony! Apparently, he accidentally called 911 and things got pretty serious.
