TikTok finally returns to Apple & Google App Stores in US

Only a few weeks have passed since TikTok was taken down from app stores following its US ban, but now the popular short-video app owned by ByteDance is back.

On January 18, 2025, the day preceding the scheduled ban of TikTok in the U.S., both Apple and Google decided to delete all applications owned by ByteDance from their app marketplaces.

Many iPhone users turned to eBay to purchase second-hand devices pre-installed with the app, while GameStop tried to cash in on the inability of users to download the popular short-form video application directly.

On Thursday, February 13th, TikTok is back up on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store, much to the delight of its enthusiastic user base.

TikTok, CapCut, Lemon8, and more return to App Store

After Mark Gurman from Bloomberg verified the information, it wasn’t long before additional apps reappeared in the United States.

NEWS FLASH: TikTok is expected to return to the U.S. App Store today, according to my sources, after receiving approval in a letter from Attorney General Pam Bondi, under the Trump administration.

A user commented on X that it’s like spending $10,000 on an iPhone only for TikTok, yet now, TikTok is returning to the App Store without any cost.

Another commented: “TIKTOK BACK ON THE APP STORE WHO BOUGHT IT.”

If you removed TikTok from your app, you can re-download it as it’s back on the Apple Store, a third party mentioned.

On January 19, 2025, the U.S. law prohibiting TikTok within the country became active. However, on the following day, President Trump issued an executive order, extending a 75-day period during which this law should not be enforced.

By the April 5th deadline, ByteDance needs to transfer its TikTok shares to another company completely, or risk a complete U.S. ban. It remains unclear whether the ban could be prolonged, or if ByteDance is negotiating with any potential buyers for the app.

As a passionate fan, I can’t help but speculate about who might take over the popular short-video app next. Yet, one thing is certain – YouTube sensation MrBeast has openly expressed his desire to team up with others for the acquisition of this beloved platform.
