Since the TikTok ban became effective on January 19, 2025, both Google and Apple had to remove the app from their respective stores. However, with TikTok resuming operations, is there a possibility that it will be reinstated in the app stores again?
At 10:30 PM Eastern Standard Time on January 18th, TikTok fell silent as it readied itself for the enactment of a law that prohibits its operation within the United States.
In addition to a service interruption, Apple and Google took down TikTok, Lemon8, CapCut, Marvel Snap, and numerous other apps from their respective app marketplaces, following a legal mandate that required them to halt access to these applications.
In just 14 hours, TikTok resumed its services, but unfortunately, some users chose to delete the app during the downtime. Regrettably, TikTok, owned by ByteDance, hasn’t been reinstated in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store yet, causing many to remain unable to use TikTok even though it’s back up and running.
TikTok’s return to the app store could be imminent
Currently, it’s unclear when TikTok might be restored on Apple’s App Store and Google Play Store.
If President Trump extends the TikTok ban for an additional 90 days on January 20, 2025, it’s likely that the involved tech companies would once more disclose a list of ByteDance-owned applications.
How to redownload TikTok on your phone
Although you can’t find TikTok in the app store for download, Android users can manually install the app on their devices instead.
Get the TikTok app by downloading it from APKMirror, then follow the guidelines given for installation on your mobile device.
On U.S.-based iPhones, Apple doesn’t allow side-loading apps, which means that TikTok won’t be available for iOS users until it’s reinstated on the App Store. In simpler terms, since Apple doesn’t let you install non-App Store apps on your iPhone in the U.S., we’ll have to wait for TikTok to return to the App Store.
