Thunderbolts* Star Lewis Pullman Hypes Up Spaceballs 2 as a ‘Dream Come True’

The next installment of the series promises to be especially thrilling. Not only will it reunite many of the original cast members, but it will also introduce one of the star’s own children as a new addition to the cast.

Walker Scobell is a new addition to the cast and will be acting with his father, Bill Pullman, who famously played Lone Starr. Scobell recently shared his excitement about the project with People magazine, calling it a “dream come true.”

The actor said it was surreal to finally understand he’d been cast in the new, eagerly awaited movie in the comedy series. He described the experience as incredible and unbelievable, like a strange dream. He recently finished filming and said every day felt amazing.

Pullman explained they’d always hoped to do this, but weren’t sure if they’d ever have the opportunity. Working on a movie like Spaceballs 2 felt incredibly surreal, like being in a strange dream.

Okay, so it sounds like they’ve finished filming the sequel! It’s been a long time coming – it officially started shooting earlier this year after what felt like forever in development. And we even got a first look at the cast in a photo, which was awesome!

I was so excited to see the first cast photo for Spaceballs 2! It instantly reminded me of the original Star Wars: The Force Awakens cast photo – they recreated that same scene! Everyone, both new and returning cast members, was sitting around a large table, and the whole picture was in black and white, just like the table read photo J.J. Abrams took for The Force Awakens. It was a really cool homage.

Who Returns to Spaceballs 2?

The upcoming sequel, arriving four decades after the 1987 film, will feature many of the original cast members. Rick Moranis is returning as Dark Helmet, and he’ll be joined by Bill Pullman and other stars from Spaceballs, including Daphne Zuniga as Princess Vespa and George Wyner as Colonel Sandurtz. Tim Russ has also hinted at a return, reportedly as a trooper literally tasked with searching the desert.

In addition to the original cast, Spaceballs 2 will feature new actors like Josh Gad (from Frozen), Keke Palmer (known for Nope), and Anthony Carrigan (Superman). The film will also include a guest appearance by the stars of Thunderbolts. Josh Greenbaum is directing, and the screenplay is by Josh Gad, Benji Samit, and Dan Hernandez.
