A major Star Wars game is about to be announced, and its title is designed to particularly grab the attention of longtime fans.
Over the years, Star Wars games have had both big hits and disappointing flops. However, even after two decades, The Old Republic remains a particularly memorable title. The Knights of the Old Republic series was crucial in establishing BioWare as a leading RPG developer in the early 2000s. And while its later MMORPG never challenged World of Warcraft’s dominance, it was successful enough to continue receiving updates and support.
Kurakasis recently shared information on X that has generated a lot of excitement. He claims a major new Star Wars game will be announced in the near future, but it’s separate from both Respawn Entertainment’s tactical game and Quantic Dream’s Star Wars: Eclipse. Kurakasis later clarified that the game’s title will include the phrase “The Old Republic”.
By “soon,” we could be looking at an announcement around The Game Awards 2025, which begins on December 11th. The game’s conclusion strongly suggests a connection to either the Knight of the Old Republic series or the online game The Old Republic.
We can likely dismiss the second possibility unless it’s a completely new iteration, like a ‘version 2.0.’ Some believe it could be the long-awaited KOTOR remake, but if that were true, wouldn’t the announcement have mentioned ‘remake’ or a similar term?
This could easily be a separate project taking place during the Old Republic era. Or, the information might not be true at all. That’s why we always suggest staying cautiously optimistic about these kinds of reports until we get official confirmation.
