This month, three game development studios have already shut down, among them being Counterplay Games, creators of Godfall.

As reported by PlayStation Lifestyle, Jackalyptic Studios had been collaborating with Counterplay Games on a joint project. Unfortunately, this collaboration couldn’t extend into 2025 because Counterplay Games had to shut its doors.

On January 9, Toadman Interactive, which had been providing support for game series like Warhammer Vermintide, was closed down. The reason given by their parent company, Enad Global 7, in a statement was that the studio couldn’t find new work-for-hire contracts quickly enough to keep operating.

Closure announcements persist in the gaming sector: Three studios are shutting down – Freejam (known for Robocraft), Counterplay Games (famous for Godfall), and Toadman Interactive (responsible for Immortal: Unchained, support for Warhammer 40K: Vermintide 2, Killing Floor, Dead Island).

On the same day, the developers of Robocraft 2, FreeJam, announced their closure, posting a message in their Discord channel stating, “Regrettably, we can’t initiate or maintain development. In the upcoming weeks, both versions of Robocraft and CardLife will be shut down. As of now, RoboCraft 2 has been removed from Steam, while the original game and CardLife are still accessible on the platform.

Godfall, the latest title by Counterplay Games, first made its debut as an exclusive for PlayStation 5 and Epic Game Store. Later on, it expanded to other platforms like Steam, Xbox, and also the PlayStation 4 following a specific duration.

Over the last several years, the gaming sector has faced numerous job cuts and studio shutdowns, and there’s no sign of this trend abating as we move towards 2025.
