This Upcoming Horror Game Has You Petting A Cute Kitty To Keep Your Sanity

The 18th Attic is a scary psychological horror game similar to Fatal Frame, where you use a Polaroid camera to find and deal with ghosts. What makes it different is that you can soothe yourself after a frightening encounter by petting a cat in the game.

Steelkrill Studio recently revealed the real-life inspiration behind the adorable cat character in their game. They shared a video on X showing players meeting the cat within the game’s ’18th Attic,’ alongside a sweet clip of the developer’s own cat enjoying a cuddle. Players will also be happy to know that the in-game kitty can be customized!

My solo-developed horror game is coming out next month! 👻 You play as a ghost hunter who uses a Polaroid camera, and instead of relying on medication, you calm your nerves by petting your cat 🐈. Check out a behind-the-scenes look at our feline actor below! 👇

In the spooky game, The 18th Attic, your cat isn’t just a friend – it will also warn you about threats. You’ll need its help as you try to escape a terrifying time loop by finding clues and avoiding dangerous ghosts.

The 18th Attic will be available on PC starting February 2nd. It’s developed by Steelkrill, a solo developer from Europe who previously created horror games like The Voidness and The Backrooms 1998.

It got me thinking about all the great video game cats out there – I was reading an article that rounded up the best of all time, and it was cool seeing both classic characters like Blinx alongside newer ones like the cat from Stray.
