This Oscar-Nominated Actor Is Playing an Iconic ‘Wizard of Oz’ Character in ‘Wicked: For Good’

A big question surrounding the upcoming movie, *Wicked: For Good*, is who will play the famous characters from the original *Wizard of Oz*. Good news for fans: they won’t have to wait until the movie comes out later this year to learn that an Academy Award nominee has been cast as the Cowardly Lion.

Colman Domingo, known for his roles in *Sing Sing* and *Euphoria*, has been confirmed to voice the Cowardly Lion in the upcoming movie *Wicked For Good*. Domingo shared the news on Instagram, ending rumors that James Cordon might take on the role. While the size of his part isn’t yet known, Universal Pictures is clearly using top-tier talent to bring this classic character to life. He’ll be joining Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande, who are both expected to be strong contenders for awards this season.

Jon M. Chu, the director of *Wicked: For Good*, hinted to *Deadline* that he’d convinced a famous actor to play the Cowardly Lion in the upcoming movie. He said the red carpet premiere will be exciting when fans see who voices the character. Chu explained he personally reached out to the actor, Domingo, via social media to ask him to join the film.
