However, even well-made horror films sometimes struggle at the box office, as we’ve seen with Nia DaCosta’s The Bone Temple. This isn’t the first time talented filmmakers have had a great movie overlooked by audiences.

I recently read TopMob’s review of 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, and it was fantastic – most critics seem to agree. It’s a shame it’s not doing well at the box office, though. It reminds me of what happened with The Marvels. Honestly, I’m starting to wonder why people aren’t giving DaCosta’s films a chance – she really deserves more recognition!

The Bone Temple And The Marvels Both Deserved Better At The Box Office

Nia DaCosta’s films haven’t always been financial disappointments – her movie Candyman was a big success. However, her recent films, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple and The Marvels, weren’t successful, though I believe the reasons for each failure were quite different.

As a movie fan, I think The Bone Temple didn’t do well at the box office for a couple of reasons. First off, January is usually a really slow month for movies, so it’s tough for anything to make big bucks. Plus, this movie barely had any promotion! Honestly, I don’t remember seeing a single TV commercial for it. It’s a shame, because the first 28 Years Later (which you can stream on Netflix, by the way) did great, but DaCosta’s sequel just wasn’t given the support it needed to succeed.

Let’s talk about The Marvels. The first Captain Marvel movie faced a lot of online negativity, possibly because it featured a female superhero. Despite that, the first film did reasonably well, and the sequel, directed by Nia DaCosta, cleverly connected to the stories of WandaVision and Ms. Marvel. Sadly, the sequel also received a lot of criticism and didn’t perform well in theaters, which is disappointing. I actually enjoyed it a lot – it was a fresh and fun blockbuster with a fast pace and great action. I also have a soft spot for movies that include musical numbers!

I really enjoyed both The Marvels and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, so I’m disappointed they haven’t been successful with audiences. Nia DaCosta is a talented director who’s shown she can excel in different kinds of films, and I worry that these movies’ box office results might limit the opportunities she gets in the future.
