This is expected to be the biggest year in the company’s history. Blizzard prepares an offensive that will overshadow previous years

BlizzCon is returning to mark Blizzard Entertainment’s 35th anniversary, promising what’s shaping up to be their biggest year yet.

Blizzard’s yearly event was a major highlight for gamers, popular with fans of games like Warcraft and Diablo. Sadly, the company had to cancel it after the pandemic started, and even continued to do so even after restrictions lifted.

Many fans were starting to doubt whether Blizzard would actually hold its event again, despite assurances from the developers earlier in the year. However, the recent announcement for the November event confirmed that BlizzCon is indeed returning, and the trailer and company statements have fans excited that it will be a major event.

2026 is a big year for Blizzard and BlizzCon

Johanna Faries, CEO of Blizzard Entertainment, has hinted at exciting plans for fans. Speaking with Variety, she revealed that Blizzard is working on major content for its popular games, not only for the BlizzCon event, but also in the months before it. This announcement came before details about the new Diablo 4 update and the second expansion were released – the update was reportedly well-received, despite mixed reviews on Steam.

We’re making significant progress on all our major Blizzard games, and we’re incredibly proud of what’s coming – not just for BlizzCon, but in the months leading up to it. Everyone is working hard, and it’s a really exciting period for us.

We already have a few major events planned: the expansions World of Warcraft: Midnight and Diablo IV: Lord of Hatred are coming in 2026, and this year marks the 30th anniversary of Diablo and the eighth anniversary of Overwatch (first released in 2016). However, according to Blizzard President Johanna Faries, there’s more to come. Blizzard is aiming to make this year its biggest yet, as part of an exciting new direction for the company.

After a long hiatus, the team is excited to make this year’s BlizzCon an unforgettable event for fans. Blizzard’s Phil Faries explained that they’re focused on delivering what players actually want – avoiding announcements of games like Diablo Immortal, which received a mixed reaction initially, despite finding success later on.

We constantly ask ourselves what our fans want from BlizzCon. What do they expect, what would excite them, and how can we make the event even bigger and better? Ultimately, we aim to be the leading gaming and entertainment company, and that vision guides our planning.

We’re aiming for BlizzCon 2026 to be a truly impressive event, showcasing our vision on a larger scale. I’m completely confident that our teams will deliver – creating an experience that captures the spirit of what our dedicated fans love about BlizzCon, while also introducing exciting new elements.
