So, Microsoft started taking preorders for the ROG Xbox Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally on September 25th, and honestly, they flew off the shelves – a lot of places sold out super fast! The more powerful handheld isn’t even officially out for another two weeks, but I heard someone in Europe actually got theirs early. Apparently, Amazon France messed up and shipped one out early to a lucky fan!
A Reddit user named TechnicalFun77 (via Xbox Era) shared mostly positive feedback about the fan, but then unexpectedly deleted their account without giving a reason.
TechnicalFun77 said, “It’s a good console.” They praised its ergonomics and well-balanced weight, describing it as a “pretty nice handheld.” The Armory Crate experience in full screen was noted as very responsive, with no lag when pressing buttons. They found the menus to be generally smooth and the battery life superb, lasting at 17-25w. Notably, the console remained quiet and ran cool even under heavy load (high TDP). The device’s sound quality was a major highlight; the user said it [feels] like the sound surrounds them, almost eliminating the need for headphones.
In a subsequent message, the user pointed out that the ROG Xbox Ally’s joysticks are very similar to those on the Xbox One. They also mentioned the device’s sleep/resume feature is better than standard Windows, “but not as good as on Steam Deck. It’s quite inconsistent.”
Recently, Ned Luke and Shawn Fonteno – the actors who voiced characters in Grand Theft Auto 5 – starred in an online advertisement for the ROG Xbox Ally X, the more powerful of the two handheld gaming devices. The ROG Xbox Ally X will be available for $1,000 in the US, while the standard ROG Xbox Ally will cost $600. You can still place a preorder at Amazon, Walmart, Best Buy, and Asus. The devices will officially launch on October 16.
Starting Friday, October 3, Microsoft is increasing the price of its Xbox consoles in the United States. The Xbox Series S will now be priced at $400, a rise from its previous cost of $380. Similarly, the Xbox Series X 1TB model will cost $650, up from $600.
