Thieves “make a break” with 12 tons of KitKat bars in chocolatey heist

A truck carrying over 12 tons of new KitKat bars—more than 413,000 individual units—was stolen somewhere in Europe during transport. The theft involves a new flavor range from Nestle.

I was really surprised to hear that a whole truck full of KitKat bars went missing! Apparently, it left from somewhere in central Italy, on its way to Poland, around the week of March 23rd. Nestle, who makes KitKats, said it was just moving the candy from where it’s made to where it’s sold. They’re still trying to find both the truck and all the KitKats, and they’re working with the police and everyone involved in getting the candy delivered.

Nestle reported that approximately 12 tonnes of chocolate were stolen from a shipment bound for several European countries. They cautioned that this loss could lead to shortages, especially with Easter – a peak season for chocolate buying – fast approaching.

A representative for KitKat playfully addressed the recent theft of over 12 tonnes of their chocolate. Referencing the brand’s well-known slogan, they joked that while they encourage people to ‘have a break’ with KitKat, the thieves took the idea a bit too far.

Nestle warned that the stolen chocolate bars might be resold illegally throughout Europe. They’re using special codes printed on each bar to track the stolen goods. If someone scans a code that matches the theft, the system will guide them on how to report it to KitKat so they can investigate.

The truck carrying a large shipment of KitKat bars is still missing, and Nestlé is working to locate the hundreds of thousands of chocolate bars before they are sold illegally.
