Thief steals $11m in crypto after pretending to be delivery driver

In San Francisco, a thief disguised as a delivery driver stole $11 million in cryptocurrency and has not yet been caught.

People who have become wealthy through cryptocurrency are increasingly being targeted by thieves looking for quick profits.

Back in March, popular streamer Amouranth and her husband were the victims of a home invasion. Armed thieves broke in and demanded access to her cryptocurrency accounts. During the incident, her husband shot at the intruders, hitting one of them, and they all ran away.

On November 22nd, San Francisco police investigated a robbery in the Mission Dolores area. The suspect gained entry to a home by posing as a delivery driver and stole cryptocurrency from the resident.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the robbery happened at approximately 6:45 a.m. on November 22nd when someone posed as a delivery person.

The thief threatened their victim with a gun, then used duct tape to restrain them. They stole the victim’s laptop, phone, and about $11 million in cryptocurrency.

Police haven’t released information about whether the victim was hurt or if the person who attacked them was caught, according to a report in the Chronicle. They’ve tried to contact the homeowner, but haven’t been able to reach them yet.

As we’ve seen, crimes involving cryptocurrency are increasing. While physical robberies like home invasions are happening more often, scams remain the most frequent way people lose money in the crypto world.

Zhimin Qian, 47, known as the “Goddess of Wealth,” received a nearly 12-year prison sentence for defrauding investors out of billions in a major Bitcoin scam.

Qian’s fraudulent scheme affected nearly 130,000 people and generated around $7.2 billion before it failed. A significant portion of this money was then changed into Bitcoin and transferred to foreign accounts.
