For many fans, Gilmore Girls remains a beloved show, particularly during the autumn months. It’s easily one of the best series available on Netflix, and it’s amazing to realize this year marks its 25th anniversary. The show created countless memorable moments, both during filming and behind the scenes. However, not everything was perfect; Lauren Graham has shared that she still feels upset about the ER set being located so close to theirs.
To mark the show’s 25th anniversary, Lauren Graham and her Gilmore Girls co-star Alexis Bledel appeared at the 2025 Emmy Awards in September. They recreated the iconic porch from Lorelai’s house, instantly transporting viewers back to Stars Hollow. The pair reminisced about filming the series years ago, sharing how surprisingly small the production was and that they operated with a limited budget.
In a clip from the Emmys posted by ET, Bledel shared how they had to save up all year long to have their one snow episode, to which Graham hilariously added that ER would wet down their street and wash it all away. Bledel then told her to let it go, but Graham insisted that since ER had George Clooney, Gilmore could have at least gotten the snow:

This is so funny, and I was particularly entertained by Graham lamenting:
They had Clooney; they could have at least let us have the damn snow.
To top it all off, while she was talking, the camera suddenly showed Noah Wyle, who’s known from both ER and The Pitt, and he was clearly amused by everything that was happening.
It was clear from the conversation between Graham and Bledel that both ER and Gilmore Girls were filmed at Warner Bros. Studios in Los Angeles simultaneously, and their sound stages were located very close to each other. It’s amusing that the actress still playfully complains about the snow after all this time, considering ER was set in Chicago and featured a lot of it.
As a big fan, I always loved when ER filmed on location in Chicago! A recent article in the Chicago Tribune confirmed they actually got to shoot there a few times, which is pretty cool.
It’s fascinating to learn about the low budget of Gilmore Girls and the creative solutions they used. For example, Graham often talks about how they’d wet down streets and even melt snow just for a single episode. The situation was made even more challenging by the fact that ER had a huge star in George Clooney, who was becoming a major movie actor during Gilmore Girls‘ run and had previously been popular on ER as Doug Ross.
Fortunately, Gilmore Girls was skilled at creating charming snow-filled episodes and working with limited resources. While they didn’t have a star like George Clooney, they consistently kept viewers engaged season after season. Today, many fans consider Gilmore Girls a beloved autumn tradition – something you can’t quite say about ER. Despite this, both shows remain popular and well-regarded.
