As a seasoned cinephile with over two decades of movie-watching under my belt, I must say that Charli XCX’s Letterboxd account leaks have certainly stirred quite the buzz among us film enthusiasts. While it’s always intriguing to peek behind the curtain and see what our favorite celebrities truly think about cinema, I can’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for Timothée Chalamet.
Charli’s unfiltered reviews offer an entertaining blend of wit and candor that is quite refreshing in today’s overly polished celebrity landscape. Her ability to reduce a movie to its essence with just a few words is something I can truly appreciate, especially when it comes to the less-than-stellar films like “21” or “Beach Bum”.
However, her love for “Charlie’s Angels” and disdain for musicals, particularly “All That Jazz”, strikes a chord with me. I too have found myself wanting to strangle someone after a particularly grueling karaoke session! It seems that even the most glamorous pop stars can’t escape the trials and tribulations of everyday life, like a poorly chosen karaoke song or a disappointing film.
In closing, I must say that Charli XCX’s Letterboxd account has added a new layer to my admiration for her. It’s not often we get to see such a high-profile figure share their honest opinions on cinema with the world. And who knows? Maybe one day she’ll change her bio to “my account leaked again, guess I’m just that good at movies.
During the promotion of her highly praised album “Crash,” Charli XCX donned a T-shirt that read “They don’t build statues of critics.” Fast forward to 2024, and Charli XCX’s latest album, Brat, has become the most critically acclaimed album of the year (a fact she is more than happy to share). Interestingly enough, Charli herself is now a film critic on Letterboxd. How times change! On December 27, Charli’s Letterboxd account was leaked to the public, leading her to update her bio to “my account got leaked i guess.” The handle for this account is @itscharlibb, with Charlie’s Angels being among the top four movies listed. All ratings on the account are currently five stars. When the account first leaked, lower-rated films included Kevin Spacey’s “21” (one and a half stars), Elle Fanning’s “Teen Spirit” (one and a half), Matthew McConaughey’s “Beach Bum” (two and a half), and Sam Levinson’s “Assassination Nation” (three). Her four-star films initially included Milk, Cruel Intentions, and, most unexpectedly, Shiva Baby, which stars her friend Rachel Sennott. Surprise! These ratings have since been removed.
In simpler terms, Charli often writes brief, straightforward reviews like calling the movie “Moneyball” unappealing to British audiences or stating that there were many songs in the film “A Complete Unknown.” One of her more subjective opinions is her dislike for musicals, which she expressed when she said she wanted to strangle someone who sang ‘All That Jazz’ during karaoke.
