These Are the Big FNAF Lore Mysteries That Freddy Fazbear Himself Wants Solved

The Five Nights at Freddy’s series is famous for its deep and complicated backstory, which fans love to analyze and discuss. This story unfolds across multiple video games, a lengthy book series, and now two movies from Universal Pictures and Blumhouse. With so many intricate details in FNAF, many questions remain unanswered, even for those who work on the franchise and bring the beloved characters to life.

TopMob recently interviewed Kellen Goff, the voice actor behind popular characters like Freddy Fazbear and Foxy in the Five Nights at Freddy’s series (including Toy Freddy in FNAF 2). During the conversation, Goff admitted there are still parts of the game’s backstory he doesn’t fully understand, even after being involved with the franchise for so long.

Goff first mentions “the sea monkey Bonnie’s thing,” a concept from the book Fazbear Frights 10: Friendly Face. This refers to experiments conducted by Fazbear Entertainment on living creatures—specifically, a genetically modified brine shrimp made to resemble the character Bonnie.

The actor wondered why the animatronics in Sister Location, like Fun Time Freddy and Circus Baby, have faceplates that appear to be divided into sections. Fans actually got a quick look at this design feature with the large Circus Baby animatronic seen in a flashback during Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.

The actor who plays Glamrock Freddy is curious about why his character is driven to protect Gregory. He feels the game hints at a deeper explanation for this motivation, but it’s never fully revealed.

The FNAF Mysteries That Stump Even Freddy Fazbear Himself

From Sea Bonnie, to Sister Location Animatronics and Glam Rock Freddy—There are Endless Mysteries

  • TopMob: “What is something about the lore that you still don’t understand?”

I keep telling people about the ‘sea monkey Bonnie’ part. I’m not sure why it was included in the books, but a lot of the book’s content is really intriguing, even though I don’t fully grasp it all.

I’m not sure about the games overall, but I’m really curious why animatronics like Funtime Freddy and Baby in Sister Location have faceplates that come off in sections. They even have hinges, which seems a bit unsettling and not very suitable for children.

I’m really curious about Glamrock Freddy’s reasons for protecting Gregory. It seemed like the game was going to explain his motivations, but it never did. There are a lot of unanswered questions in this series, and the creator often leaves things open to interpretation, so we might never get definitive answers.

Comparing the Experience Filming FNAF 1 Compared to FNAF 2

“It Was Truly a Night-and-Day Experience.”

  • TopMob: “[Can you compare] the experience between that first film and then the second film?”

Kellen Goff: It all started pretty spontaneously, really. As far as I know, they didn’t own the rights to the Foxy character at the time. Scott Cawthon is very resourceful – if he can handle something himself, he will. So he contacted me and asked if I could record a sound effect for a pirate scout. I said, ‘Absolutely!’

You won’t believe how one of my early contributions ended up in the film! I was at theater camp, way out in Massachusetts, and recorded a few takes on my phone – there wasn’t a microphone in sight. I sent it in, and incredibly, they actually used my recording in the movie. That was pretty much it, though – a quick in-and-out experience. It’s a funny story, but honestly, it felt like a one-off moment and that was the end of it.

With ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,’ I had a lucky break – I happened to be available when they were filming, and I got a small on-screen role as an extra during the Fazfest scene, walking behind Toy Freddy. Beyond that, I also voiced the character of Toy Freddy, and they even had me record in a professional movie sound studio with all the proper equipment.

I was hooked from the start – the press events, the trips, everything. They even sent me a popcorn bucket! It was a completely different experience this time around. I felt much more included, and I’m really thankful they invited me. It was just a lot of fun, and they really made me feel special.
