The unexpected Netflix sensation, Cobra Kai, is about to conclude its sixth season, and here’s why a seventh one may not materialize.
The Karate Kid continues to provide entertainment in various forms. Originating in 1984, it has led to two follow-ups, a modern take titled The Next Karate Kid, and a remake featuring Jackie Chan.
Initially, Cobra Kai was met with minimal excitement, having premiered on YouTube. However, upon its release on Netflix, it unexpectedly captivated audiences worldwide.
The performance has ended, so you can now check out our summary for Series 6 Part 3 and our analysis of its conclusion and key points. Additionally, we’ve included a sweet nod to Rocky and a humorous Back to the Future reference. Furthermore, here’s an insight into why this is the final chapter for Cobra Kai.
Why there won’t be a Cobra Kai Season 7
In this special sneak peek for Cobra Kai Season 6, Part 3, the highly-anticipated Sekai Taikai tournament is making its return. The grand finale of Cobra Kai will stream on Netflix beginning February 13th.

Since the conflict between Daniel LaRusso and Johnny Lawrence, along with their competing dojos, reached its resolution in Season 6, we won’t be seeing a Cobra Kai Season 7.
The Sekai Takai tournament concluded, with our champion emerging victorious, all remaining issues were resolved, and John Kreese, the notorious antagonist, received a fittingly intense conclusion to his storyline.
In an interview with Gizmodo in 2024, Cobra Kai co-creator Jon Hurwitz disclosed that the decision to conclude the series after Season 6 had been made towards the close of the previous season.
After wrapping up Season 5, Hurwitz shared that we had discussions with Sony and Netflix about our plans for the future. We realized we were nearing the end of our journey, but we felt that 10 episodes wouldn’t be enough to conclude all our stories satisfactorily. On the other hand, 20 episodes seemed excessive. So, we proposed, “Let’s make this the final season. Is there a way to find a middle ground between 10 and 20?” Eventually, we agreed on 15 episodes as the ideal number.
In Season 6, there are additional episodes to provide a fitting ending for the stories of both Daniel and Johnny, along with those of their pupils and adversaries.
The potential future of the Miyagiverse
Although Cobra Kai has concluded, there’s a possibility that the Miyagiverse could persist, as co-creator Josh Heald mentioned to Rolling Stone: “We purposefully left some opportunities on the table at the end of Cobra Kai – be it for us or for a future generation to reinterpret a story 40 years from now, or for any new offshoot to branch out.
Instead of aiming to annihilate everything and call it quits, we prefer to view this cosmos as dynamic and full of life. The potential for what’s to come is limitless.
There’s been talk of a prequel focusing on young Miyagi, the karate master, as well as a spinoff featuring Eli and Demetri. If you can’t wait for those to materialize, get ready for Daniel LaRusso’s return in Karate Kid: Legends this summer, where his storyline intertwines with Jackie Chan’s. In other words, while the original series may be over, in the world of Miyagi, Cobra Kai continues to live on.
