There Will Soon Be Another Way To Play Xbox Games Without An Xbox

Microsoft and Hisense are teaming up to make the Xbox app available on Hisense TVs. This will work on TVs powered by V, Hisense’s operating system (previously called VIDAA).

The main point is that players will soon be able to enjoy Xbox games on more devices, even without owning an Xbox console. This is thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which is part of Game Pass Essential, Premium, and Ultimate subscriptions.

Microsoft’s goal is to let you easily access your games, friends, and progress, no matter where you are. Bringing the Xbox app to certain Hisense and V homeOS TVs is another way they’re expanding gaming to more devices, so you can play wherever you choose, according to the company.

You won’t be able to play Xbox games directly on your Hisense TV right away – it won’t be available tomorrow or next week. Microsoft says they’ll share more information about how it will work in the next few months, so stay tuned for updates.

Hisense TVs now join Samsung, which first added the Xbox app in 2022, letting users stream games directly to their televisions.

Microsoft is working to reach more players, even those who don’t own an Xbox console. Their message is simple: “This is an Xbox.”

In 2020, Phil Spencer, head of Microsoft Gaming, explained that Xbox is focused on growing its player base, but not just on the Xbox console itself. He clarified that Xbox considers anyone who engages with their gaming services – whether through games made by Microsoft or other companies – to be an Xbox player. This includes people playing on devices like Android phones, Nintendo Switch consoles, or PCs. Xbox defines its players by their participation in the overall gaming ecosystem, not just the device they use.

Game consoles themselves typically aren’t very profitable, and earn far less revenue than the games and online services offered for them. That’s why Microsoft is focusing so much on Xbox Game Pass – gaining more subscribers provides a consistent and predictable income.
