As 2025 nears its end, many companies are following Spotify’s lead and letting users look back on their activity from the past year. Sony’s PlayStation Wrap-Up, Steam’s annual review, and Nintendo’s Year in Review are all available, but Xbox hasn’t announced anything similar yet – leaving many wondering when they’ll join the trend.
Microsoft usually provides a yearly summary of Xbox news, so it’s surprising they won’t be doing one in 2025. Despite releasing several popular games this year and partnering with Asus on a new Xbox handheld PC, Windows Central reports that Microsoft is focusing its marketing efforts on celebrating significant anniversaries in 2026.
Next year marks big anniversaries for several major gaming brands: Xbox turns 25, Blizzard celebrates 35 years, and Bethesda hits 40. Microsoft likely wants to make the most of these milestones, which could be why we aren’t getting an Xbox Wrapped this year. Plus, BlizzCon is returning in September, and Blizzard is hinting at an especially exciting 2026.
Beyond Microsoft’s games, several other popular franchises have big anniversaries coming up. Pokémon will celebrate its 30th year in 2026, while Sonic the Hedgehog will turn 35. Both The Legend of Zelda and Castlevania will hit the impressive 40-year mark that same year.
We’ve reached out to Xbox to ask if they’re planning a year-in-review summary, and we’ll share any news as soon as we get a response.
