The team behind the movie ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ received promotional merchandise featuring a wide range of Marvel superheroes, including the X-Men who are back in the universe. Surprisingly, four key Avengers heroes aren’t included in the merchandise line.
The upcoming ‘Doomsday’ movie is shaping up to be the largest team-up event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe since ‘Endgame,’ bringing together heroes from different universes. Following the decision to remove Kang from the film, the Russo Brothers revealed that Robert Downey Jr. will be back – but as Doctor Doom, not his iconic character Tony Stark.
And he’s definitely not the only star coming! I remember back in March 2025, Marvel had everyone glued to their screens for over five hours! They were constantly announcing cast members, about every 15 minutes, and it was insane – everything from Chris Hemsworth returning as Thor to the Fantastic Four and even the X-Men, who used to be with Fox! It was a huge reveal.
With the release of ‘Doomsday’ approaching in December 2026, more details are emerging. Recently, SFX and makeup artist Gi Ponci shared a photo of a bag given to the crew, showcasing the superheroes’ costumes.

The recent cast reveal is exciting, but you might have wondered where some of the Avengers were. Here’s who’s not included:
- Tom Holland as Peter Parker/Spider-Man
- Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk
- Benedict Cumberbatch as Dr. Stephen Strange
- Brie Larson as Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel
The most surprising exclusion is Spider-Man and Hulk, both consistently popular and successful Avengers. Given that the new Spider-Man movie, *Brand New Day*, is coming out shortly before the anticipated *Doomsday* event, many expected Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to be a major player in the Marvel Cinematic Universe going forward.
These characters might be held back for the upcoming *Avengers: Secret Wars*, expected to be a massive event, even larger than *Doomsday*. But there’s also a chance the reason is much more straightforward.
The merchandise includes the superheroes already revealed by the cast announcements, suggesting Marvel is holding back on revealing any further character names for now.

Rumors suggest several major stars will appear in the next Marvel film, including possible returns by Chris Evans and Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool.
So, I was reading The Cosmic Circus last week, and Alex Perez said the studio is intentionally keeping some of the characters and cast members under wraps until the game, Doomsday, actually comes out. They want to keep some surprises for launch, which is pretty cool, honestly!
You know, I’ve been thinking about why we haven’t seen a lot of merchandise with certain characters, and it’s starting to feel like Marvel might be holding back on purpose. Maybe they’re saving those reveals for big moments in the movies or shows – kind of like building anticipation!
After seeing the initial bag drop, a user on Reddit suggested the reveal focused solely on the actors playing the chairs, and didn’t include stars like Captain Marvel, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man, or the Hulk. They found this particularly noteworthy.
Someone else suggested the most probable reason: they anticipated information would surface from the wrap parties, so they intentionally only revealed things that were already known – like the cast of Chairstream and the actor playing Franklin, who we briefly saw in a scene from the movie that was used as a post-credits teaser for *The Fantastic Four: First Steps*.
One person explained it simply: this is the main cast, and anyone not listed will only appear in smaller roles or as cameos. Another agreed, suggesting we likely won’t see the other characters until the ‘Secret Wars’ movie.
