There are 3 characters Michael Gandolfini could be in Daredevil: Born Again

The much-anticipated trailer for “Daredevil: Born Again” was unveiled to great admiration, offering enthusiasts a refreshed perspective of beloved characters as well as the initial glimpse into Michael Gandolfini’s enigmatic part.

The trailer offers an insightful recap of the five-year gap between Matt Murdock’s previous vigilante life and his current state, primarily through a prolonged dialogue between him and the newly elected Mayor Kingpin. Viewers are treated to updated images of Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle/Punisher, Karen Page, and assorted antagonists. However, the trailer also generates anticipation with its initial glimpse into Michael Gandolfini’s enigmatic new character.

Without any unexpected twists, there are essentially three plausible roles that Gandolfini might take on, each implying distinct directions for the storyline of Daredevil: Born Again.

Who is Michael Gandolfini playing in Daredevil: Born Again?

In the preview, we catch a glimpse of Gandolfini striding assertively through urban landscapes, and Murdock’s voiceover says, “I was taught to embrace grace.” Following sequences of intense brutality, Murdock continues with, “However, I was also taught to seek justice.” Initially, the credits for Daredevil: Born Again indicated that Michael Gandolfini would portray an original character named “Daniel Blade,” who has no comic book or Netflix series history associated with him.

In a unique twist, the original character named Blade could potentially take on various roles within the storyline, but his appearance in the ‘villain takedown’ scene of the trailer hints that he might be associated with the antagonists like Kingpin. However, Marvel has a history of employing cunning strategies to conceal cameos and characters, ranging from actors misleading interviews to skillfully editing trailers to maintain surprise.

It’s conceivable that James Gandolfini might be playing a younger version of Kingpin, considering his striking similarity to Michael D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk and his past roles like the young Tony Soprano in “The Many Saints of Newark.” In Daredevil Season 1’s “Shadows in the Glass,” we saw Wilson Fisk as a child, portrayed by Cole Jensen, but Gandolfini also shares a strong resemblance to him when he has grown into a young man.

In a similar vein, it’s plausible that the character portrayed by Gandolfini in the trailer could be depicting Fisk’s son, given their striking resemblance. In the comics, Wilson Fisk’s son Richard was entangled in the criminal world under various aliases, one of them being The Rose who wore a red hood and suit. This character in the trailer at 1:36 bears a striking resemblance to The Rose.

Since Fisk has had a complex family history, including another son named Byron “Butch” Fisk, and Marvel has combined comic characters in the past, there’s a chance that this history could be incorporated into Gandolfini’s character. Regardless of his identity, we’re eagerly waiting for the revelation.

While it’s possible that some beloved characters might not make it to the series, some have been confirmed.
