As a hardcore gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in the rich world of The Witcher series, I can hardly contain my excitement about The Witcher 4. Ten years have passed since Geralt last graced our screens, and it feels like an eternity. But now, CD Projekt has officially embarked on the journey to create what promises to be a masterpiece that will surpass even the greatness of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077.
Almost a decade has passed since The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt graced our consoles, and though the next chapter in this captivating series is yet to come, I, as a dedicated fan, can hardly contain my excitement over what CD Projekt Red has brewing for The Witcher 4. Now fully immersed in production, I eagerly anticipate the unveiling of the secrets and adventures that await us in this highly-anticipated sequel!
According to a conversation with Eurogamer, representatives from CD Projekt Red, including CEO Michał Nowakowski and Vice President of Technology Charles Tremblay, affirmed that the upcoming The Witcher 4 will surpass both The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 in scale and quality.
Trembley stated, “I believe we’re doing some pretty amazing things, and I’m excited about the potential of showcasing this technology well. One point I want to make clear is that upgrading our technology doesn’t change our inherent ambition. The next game we create won’t be smaller or inferior; instead, it will surpass the greatness of The Witcher 3 and Cyberpunk. That’s not just acceptable for us, but it’s a necessity because we refuse to settle for anything less than perfection.
The company is determined not to repeat its past mistakes in promoting the game, and will only start the marketing campaign when the game is fully prepared for release – a lesson it learned from Cyberpunk 2077. Nowakowski mentioned that they will continue to share teaser videos and other intriguing tidbits to keep fans engaged and secure preorders. However, it appears that the production of major trailers and assets will be delayed until the studio has a clearer release date.
Nowakowski stated emphatically: “What I’m trying to convey is this: just because we might share some sneak peeks or playful hints before the official reveal, it doesn’t mean we won’t be serious about the marketing campaign. The marketing phase, which occurs prior to the game launch, is distinct from what we call a ‘mass attack’. A ‘mass attack’, in our context, refers to announcing the release date, starting pre-orders, and the intense competition between that point and the actual launch of the game.
Although specific details about The Witcher 4 are yet to be disclosed, CD Projekt RED’s management has hinted that the development process for The Witcher 5 and The Witcher 6 might run more smoothly due to a solid foundation being established earlier. They also suggested that each subsequent game in this new trilogy could take approximately three years to develop, implying that fans can look forward to experiencing The Witcher series well into the 2030s.
