The White Lotus Mortality Predictions – A weekly discussion on potential suspects and victims among the guests and staff at this ill-fated hotel chain, based on this week’s events.
Over the past two and a half years since we last accompanied an unpolished bunch of unhappy wealthy individuals to paradise through “The White Lotus”, quite a bit has shifted in our harsh, challenging world. Back then, Sabrina Carpenter was primarily recognized by many as the supposed “blonde girl” from “Drivers License”; AI technology hadn’t yet become an omnipresent force without user-friendly opt-out options, like that unwanted U2 album automatically appearing on our phones; America still maintained a tenuous connection to democracy; Emily was still living in Paris.
It’s high time to reconnect with a fresh group of wealthy individuals who apparently overlooked the details that The White Lotus is a lavish resort intended for tranquil escapes, free from any on-site murders. Despite the snow falling heavily as I type this, we find ourselves transported to sunny Thailand in our visuals, where serenity lasts barely seven minutes before being disrupted by the rapid succession of gunshots. This can only mean one thing: someone is killing, and others are the victims. The question remains: who among them harbors malice, and who will not survive this getaway? Let’s still our restless thoughts and start speculating. Welcome back to The White Lotus Murder Mystery Report. Who appears to hold murder in their soul, and who won’t live to enjoy the remainder of their vacation? Let us ponder and make our predictions.
Victoria Ratliff (Parker Posey)
It seems incredibly fitting that Parker Posey is on The White Lotus. Her portrayal of our beloved party girl brings out a unique charm with her distinctive accent. The way she pronounces “Aah wuz also a TAHR-heel” is simply delightful. I understand that graduates from both Duke and UNC might have strong reactions to the depiction of their alma maters on this show – one character being portrayed as a tough white-collar criminal father, while another appears as a medicated, spacey, sexist-tolerant mother who finds beauty in her family’s wealth. I can’t wait to read your thoughts and opinions about it!
Is it likely that she’ll engage in violence, or could she be the one harmed? Given her current state of being on lorazepam and struggling with jet lag, it seems unlikely, but it’s also important not to underestimate her capabilities at this time.
Timothy Ratliff (Jason Isaacs)
Timothy insists he doesn’t prefer a “digital detox area,” as he’s receiving vital calls from The Wall Street Journal. It’s likely nothing significant, but there seems to be no unusual activity regarding his former partner Kenny and their investments in Brunei. Within moments of embarking on this vacation, Timothy has a heated argument with Rick on the boat, and their relationship doesn’t seem to improve when they’re on land. My gut feeling is that one of them might attempt to harm the other before the week is over.
As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but wonder: Will his life end in taking another’s or will he meet an untimely demise? However, the intricate plot twists suggest that we’ve been led to believe he’s a cold-blooded killer. In reality, it seems he’s more of a pawn in someone else’s deadly game, a victim rather than an executioner of homicidal tendencies.
Saxon Ratliff (Patrick Schwarzenegger)
As a cinema enthusiast, I can’t help but describe the oldest son as the epitome of a power-hungry Duke, or as I like to call him, the Ultimate Dukeson. He’s a workaholic who shuns vacations and thrives in every situation with an uncanny sexual assertiveness. This trait isn’t confined to his social life; he even finds ways to bring it up when discussing his sister’s purity or asking about adult content, all while strutting around the house naked, as if we were witnessing a scene straight out of “Flowers in the Attic.” His mantra? “Get laid, get everything.” A subtle approach, indeed!
Is there a chance this individual will meet his end violently, or could he potentially be the one inflicting harm? This person seems to possess an unsettling resemblance to the character from “American Psycho.” For now, let’s avoid speculating too much. It is certainly plausible that he might be a dangerous individual.
Piper Ratliff (Sarah Catherine Hook)
During the Ratliff family trip, the main purpose appears to be the interview of a monk by their daughter from UNC. While it’s commonly emphasized that the older son’s libido is shocking and unsettling, I find it worth mentioning the casualness with which Piper expresses her willingness to have her brother Lochlan stay with her.
Will the girl studying Buddhism end up harming someone or meet with harm herself during her journey? I truly hope she’s not capable of causing harm, and it would be tragic if anything were to happen to her on this trip, so let’s hope for her safety and well-being throughout this experience.
Lochlan Ratliff (Sam Nivola)
In simpler terms, it appears that among his siblings, Lochlan is often caught in a struggle for attention. Given this dynamic, I suspect he might end up dating whoever his elder brother cannot, significantly altering the older sibling’s perspective on relationships.
Will he kill or be killed? He feels too gentle for either path.
The “victory lap” blondes: Laurie (Carrie Coon), Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan), and Kate (Leslie Bibb)
Long-standing friends harboring mutual bitterness… it’s just too intriguing not to notice! We have Jaclyn, who seems a tad like Alexis, right? She organized this trip with her closest companions, but it soon becomes apparent that they aren’t as close or dear anymore. They barely see each other, falsify information about personal matters you’d typically share with your best female friends (such as cosmetic procedures), and spread gossip whenever one of them is absent. There’s Kate, striving to appear both ordinary and Jac’s equal – after all, her husband owns a large company, so she understands the challenges of questioning others’ intentions when they are friendly towards you! – and Laurie, the relentless corporate worker who, when left alone to observe her friends, breaks into tearful sobs.
As Laurie’s friends began confronting her aggressively, I jotted down in my journal, “I can hardly wait for her to take action against others.” However, let’s observe the situation unfold. Kate is under a lot of stress, after all. It’s because of Dave’s profession!!!
Belinda (Natasha Rothwell)
At the White Lotus, Belinda’s loyalty towards the brand is quite strong due to her past experiences there. However, the draw of Natasha Rothwell’s return is undeniable. She aims to rekindle the enchantment in Maui while also expecting a visit from her charismatic son.
It’s unlikely that she will either die or cause someone else’s death at the end. This is because her son would probably have shown a more profound reaction upon finding his mother’s body. Her peaceful arrival suggests she might not be inclined to act aggressively like Rambo. However, there’s always room for change and growth!
Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood)
In simpler terms, this character from Sex Education is a sweet and young girlfriend of Rick’s who exhibits both innocence and wisdom. She doesn’t understand that the small amount of wine is for tasting, but she quickly picks up on Saxon being unpleasant. The details about how they started dating or how long they’ve been together are unclear, but we do know that her intentions towards Rick are pure – wanting only what’s best for him. She suggests a gentleman’s facial because someone at the airport mistook Rick for her father, and offers Tantric sex to uplift him. She firmly believes that their connection is cosmic and aims to help Rick regain his happiness, though she hopes it doesn’t put too much strain on her.
Is it conceivable that she might meet harm herself, or inflict harm upon others? Frankly, I find it hard to imagine her causing injury to another being. If she were to take a life, I’d wager there are compelling motives behind her actions.
Rick (Walton Goggins)
Rick appears to be an ordinary individual, with no signs of anything untoward: There’s a mystery surrounding why he can’t travel to Australia; he reacts defensively to his girlfriend inquiring by labeling her as aggressive and rapid-fire; he shows particular interest when the owner mentions her wealthy American husband residing in Bangkok. Fans of Righteous Gemstones are thrilled to see Goggins portray a manipulator (and many have supported him since our coal mining days), so I’m eager to discover what kind of deceitful tactics he employs this time around.
There’s a strong chance Rick might end up in a life-threatening situation due to his questionable actions and hidden agendas. His adversary (Timothy) and mysterious past hint at the possibility of him taking someone else’s life, but it also makes him vulnerable since others could attempt to eliminate him as well.
Mook (Lalisa Manobal) and Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong)
One notable observation about Mook, the K-pop star disguised as a hotel employee, is that people often comment on her beauty. However, it’s interesting to note this aspect subtly, given Mook’s character pretense. Gaitok, her devoted co-worker, seems to be smitten by her, and it’s hard not to sympathize with his feelings. It’s worth mentioning that Gaitok once rescued a drowning man, which adds to the intrigue given our knowledge of the one known deceased individual who was found in the water. I can’t help but wonder if Gaitok is too innocent for this world.
Will Gaitok take Mook’s life or lose his own? Indeed, he would take Mook’s life if asked to do so; however, I believe it is more likely that Mook will meet an untimely end rather than being the one to inflict harm. I am hesitant to make any unfavorable conjectures about Mook as I hold great reverence for the Blinks and wish only the best for Lisa, both in the stories she creates and in her real life!
Chloe (Charlotte Le Bon)
A stand-in for Chelsea, complete with a similar name, Chloe is a “character” in this context (she’s actually an escort, to clarify, reminiscent of Willa from Succession). She’s here to brighten up Chelsea’s day. Much like her character, she also has an older partner who tends to be elusive and is none other than Greg, a familiar face from the previous season, similar to Tanya’s Greg. Chloe’s take on the “bald white guys” in Thailand, referred to as “LBHs”, is amusing; they are colloquially known as “Losers Back Home.
Will she kill or be killed? I 100 percent believe Chloe is capable of murder.
Greg (Jon Gries)
I can’t help but feel a chill down my spine as he returns! This week, he may not have much to show, but let’s not forget the rumors surrounding how he amassed his fortune – allegedly through the tragic death of his wife for her inheritance. With that kind of history, I can’t help but worry about everyone around him, starting with Chloe.
Let me rephrase that for you: Is it him who kills or gets killed? I sincerely hope he meets his end. I remember Jennifer Coolidge expressing her belief that death was too kind for him and she wanted Greg to be rotting in a dreadful prison instead. My prediction: He will make an attempt on someone’s life, but ultimately, he will be the one who gets killed. Justice prevails!
Too soon to say:
I’ll be closely monitoring Fabian, who holds the position of general manager; there’s a lot at stake, and unforeseen events could occur. I’m curious about Sritala, as I wonder if she’s being truthful regarding her husband, and whether her entire life is a performance given her acting background. My notes mention Pam with a comment like “If I were her, I would want to eliminate everyone laugh-out-loud,” which intrigues me. Valentin, the charismatic Russian health mentor, has caught my attention, and I suspect we’ll see more of him in the future. Lastly, the tree monkeys, with their opposable thumbs, are not to be underestimated; they’re still a factor to consider.
