Brittany’s diet is full of things like crab boils, pizza, and lots of Taco Bell, so it’s no wonder none of the cast on The Valley are eating healthy foods like apples. That explains why they’re constantly at the doctor’s office – or, more accurately, limping their way there!
It’s tough seeing Jason injured, and it’s funny that it took so long for anyone to notice the attractive paramedic who helped him! Someone really should have gotten his permission to be filmed. Now we need to find a way to publicly thank him – appropriately, of course, no unwanted attention! I shouldn’t make fun of Jason for getting hurt playing basketball, though; injuries happen as you get older. One minute you’re fine, the next you’re dealing with something unexpected. My brother learned that the hard way when he tried to learn to skateboard at 35 and ended up with a similar injury. Let’s all tease him instead! I’m happy to share his contact information if you’d like.
Jason’s recovery will likely take nine months to a year, and he’s understandably worried about how his wife, Janet, will manage caring for both him and their son during that time. Regardless of what anyone thinks of Janet, Jason is a genuinely good person – always supportive of his wife and friends, and even a playful competitor. It really touched me when he expressed concern about missing out on time with his son, fearing he won’t be able to play with him. But honestly, the fact that he’s even worried about that proves what a great dad he is – their bond is clearly already strong enough to withstand a little surgery. He’ll still be present every day, setting an example, showing his son love, and even packing snacks for doctor’s appointments. It’s all those little things that truly matter and strengthen their connection. A knee injury won’t change that.
Brittany’s surgery was considered elective, but it feels like she didn’t really have a choice, given the circumstances. It’s frustrating that she had to rely on Jax Taylor to pay for her implants, and ideally, the cost should have been covered by fans – even a small contribution from everyone could have freed her from owing him anything. Seeing Kristen and Zack help her recover, though sometimes awkwardly documented, highlighted how much support she has. The moments were both funny and heartwarming, and Lala’s comment at the party – that she’s excited for Brittany to finally see herself as others do – was particularly touching. Hopefully, Brittany recognizes her own worth, and at the very least, she can enjoy the results of the surgery.
The main conflict in this episode revolves around Darkside Danny. Kristen and Zack talk to Nia at Kristen’s house, sharing Lala and Brittany’s worries about him. Nia gets upset, and while she’s talking, she’s carrying her baby in a front carrier. She makes a good point: everyone often gets drunk and behaves badly, so why is Danny being singled out?
Everyone acts foolish when they’re drunk, but Danny’s behavior is particularly concerning. While Zack and Brittany also become emotional when intoxicated, they usually direct their frustration at anyone around them. Danny, however, consistently targets women when he drinks – whether it’s bothering Jasmine and Melissa, making Janet uncomfortable, or verbally abusing his wife. This isn’t just typical drunken behavior; while Zack’s outbursts might disrupt the group, Danny’s actions make the women feel unsafe and uncomfortable.
When Nia brought up Danny’s drinking, he suggested he might need to limit it when he’s with their friends, and I think that’s a smart move. The main problem between Nia and Danny seems to be that people are hinting Danny has a drinking problem, which I don’t believe is true. However, it’s clear from the last couple seasons that his drinking does cause difficulties. He doesn’t need professional help, but he should probably drink privately – either at home or with close friends – if he doesn’t want it to become a recurring issue while they’re filming.
I’m unsure how Lala’s involvement plays into everything. While I think she did the right thing by confronting Danny about how he was treating Nia during the trip, I question whether she should have involved Kristen, Zack, and the rest of the group. It started as an issue between her, Nia, and Danny, but she turned it into a group problem, which ultimately hurt Jasmine, Janet, and Jason last season. Jasmine is right to point out that the group is taking Lala’s concerns about Danny and Nia much more seriously than they took her own issues with him, and her conversation with Kristen was important, especially when she brought up the possibility that it’s because she’s a gay Black woman.
It doesn’t matter why people are focusing on her more, but Lala did the right thing by telling Nia she doesn’t appreciate how Danny speaks to her and offering to help if Nia wants to discuss it. However, Nia consistently says she’s already talked to Danny about it, they go to therapy, and they communicate well, so she feels okay.
There are two separate issues being discussed. One is about Nia and her relationship with Danny, and Lala believes that’s the core of the conflict. If Nia insists she’s happy, even if others disagree with her choice, everyone should respect that and let it go. She’s said she doesn’t see a problem, so that should be the end of it. The other issue is Danny’s behavior towards the group when they’re together, and that remains a valid concern. If he wants the criticism to stop, he needs to change his actions, not just repeatedly apologize. He can’t keep getting drunk, acting badly, and then expecting an apology to fix things indefinitely. Honestly, I’m tired of this being a constant plot point on the show; Danny’s behavior can’t be the only story they focus on.
Thankfully, Michelle shared some surprising news this week about Jesse. She revealed that during the pandemic, he took out a $300,000 COVID relief loan, deposited it into his personal account, and spent it all. Now, Michelle is responsible for half of the debt. She explained that Jesse can’t even afford his share of the down payment ($15,000) or the $200 monthly health insurance for their daughter. It makes you wonder if Lacy is funding everything just to stay on the show – it’s definitely the most costly reality TV appearance I’ve ever heard of! Michelle and Lala discussed this while hiking Runyon Canyon, with Lala noting she much prefers the paved path.
The way the episode ended was brilliantly manipulative – it felt like someone with a lot of reality TV experience had a hand in it, and probably wasn’t Michelle alone. I wonder if she got advice from someone like Scheana Shay, or if she learned some tricks from Lindsay Hubbard, maybe even during BravoCon. It’s even possible she was inspired by a reality TV veteran like Tamra Barney Judge. Whatever happened, something definitely changed, and the result was surprisingly effective.
Michelle is desperate to finalize her divorce from Jesse and is frustrated by his delays. Jesse claims he isn’t stalling, just waiting for the paperwork. Michelle then dramatically produces the divorce papers from her handbag, placing them in front of him. This puts Jesse in a difficult position: if he signs, he gives Michelle what she wants and loses control; if he refuses, he admits he was the one preventing the divorce. Michelle has effectively cornered him, ensuring she wins and he loses. Her friends, Scheana, Lindsay, and Tamra, are impressed by her clever tactic.
Jesse watches as Michelle, on camera, claims she isn’t taking anything from him. In reality, she’s incurring $150,000 in debt just to escape him. She’s relieved her plan worked and she’s finally free. He comments that it’s the most he’s ever seen her cry. She steps back from him, and her mind fills with images of open roads, the bright desert landscape of Joshua Tree, and the vast Pacific Ocean – seemingly empty, but full of life beneath the surface. She anticipates the freedom that lies ahead and eagerly wants to embrace it. Looking directly at him, she confesses, “I cry all the time when I’m alone.”
