The UK is being battered by rain every day – and it’s not stopping anytime soon

Forecasters say it’s rained somewhere in the UK every day this year, and the country is currently experiencing over 40 consecutive days of wet weather.

As a weather enthusiast, I’ve been following the unusually wet start to the year, and it looks like it’s going to continue! The Met Office says we aren’t seeing any indication of a dry spell coming anytime soon, meaning we’re on track to have a record-breaking run of days without complete dryness. It’s pretty amazing – and a little soggy – to think that many places are already halfway through February without a single totally dry day this year!

According to senior meteorologist Simon Partridge, the next week to ten days aren’t expected to bring any extended dry spells. Because the ground is already very wet across much of the country, we can anticipate more rainfall warnings as new weather systems arrive.

England currently has over 100 flood alerts in effect, and yellow rain warnings are in place for areas including southwestern England and Scotland. The weather forecast predicts further heavy rainfall will affect most of the UK over the next few days.

It has officially rained every day in the UK in 2026

Meteorologist Aidan McGivern from the Met Office reports that many areas have experienced over 40 straight days of rain, making the beginning of 2026 unusually wet. January rainfall in several regions was among the highest ever seen, and numerous weather stations set new monthly and daily records.

Ugh, this rain is relentless! It feels like we’re stuck in a never-ending loop because of this strong jet stream. Basically, it’s pushing one low-pressure system after another right at the UK, and it’s not letting any of the fronts clear out. That’s why it just keeps raining, day after day – seriously annoying when you’re trying to get some gaming time in!

The weather forecast suggests a short break from the rain later this week for some places, but it won’t last long. More wet weather is expected to arrive before the weekend is over.
