With 2026 now underway, we’re looking back at the most enjoyable sports and racing video games from 2025. Several titles stood out, but we’ve compiled a list of the very best.

1. Mario Kart World – Best Sports & Racing Games of 2025

The most popular game on the Nintendo Switch 2 is also our top pick for sports or racing games this year. This newest Mario Kart game has a ton of fun features and a huge selection of characters.

I really enjoy the large number of racers – having 24 on a single track is fantastic. It creates exciting action without being overly chaotic and interfering with the race. I also appreciate the diverse character selection; it’s great to see more than just the same few characters or costumes repeated. Plus, it’s a nice change to see different skins available for characters beyond Yoshi and Shy Guy.

There are also some really enjoyable game modes to try. Knockout Tour and Free Roam are great options when you want a break from the Grand Prix races. Overall, Mario Kart World delivers the fun and polished gameplay that fans know and love from the Mario Kart series.

We’ve heard the feedback about recent online changes, but we still love this game as a fun group activity. It’s easily our top pick for sports and racing games this year.

2. NBA 2K26 – Best Sports & Racing Games of 2025

NBA 2K26 is easily the best sports game based on a real league, in our opinion. While there’s room for the game to get even better, it still offers a top-tier gameplay experience.

NBA 2K26 delivers a fantastic gaming experience with a huge variety of ways to play. You can dive into different historical periods with MyNBA, customize your player and build a career in MyCAREER, or collect cards and build your dream team in MyTEAM. There’s something for everyone!

I still think MyCAREER is the best player-career mode available in any game. I really enjoyed playing through Out of Bounds, and I like being able to choose between starting my career in Spain or France. I’m excited to see what 2K does with their upcoming college basketball game.

3. Sonic Racing: Crossworlds – Best Sports & Racing Games of 2025

I thought the first Sonic Racing game was decent, but Sonic Speedways feels like a real step up. It’s simple to learn, really engaging once you master it, and has a lot of enjoyable tracks.

Although I’d like to see some different characters added as downloadable content, the game’s character selection is generally strong. I appreciate that AiAi is available for free, and the original characters included are a great choice.

Gadgets really shake things up, giving each race a unique feel based on how you equip your character and vehicle. With over 70 gadgets to choose from, you can customize everything for a lot of fun and variety.

Sonic Racing: Crossworlds is a really fun racing game, especially if you already enjoy Sonic games. While I still think Mario Kart World is better for parties, it’s great to switch between the two for some variety.

4. College Football 26 – Best Sports & Racing Games of 2025

Although College Football 26 isn’t a huge departure from the previous game, it’s still a fantastic update. The most noticeable changes are in how the game looks and feels, but the developers have also refined the core gameplay modes.

I really enjoyed the changes to Road to Glory, particularly the high school portion. Even though it’s only five games, going through the college recruitment process is a lot of fun. It’s also great that even lower-rated players have a chance to earn their way into a better college program.

Dynasty mode remains enjoyable, and now lets you compete against other players acting as coaches. The game has also been updated with new Mental and Physical skills for players, and you have more control over the Transfer Portal.

Even though I’d prefer EA Sports to build their sports games on a new engine, the current one, Frostbite, could actually be a good fit for College Football 26. Overall, it’s still a really fun game, particularly if you enjoy playing with friends in online dynasties.

5. EA Sports F1 25 – Best Sports & Racing Games of 2025

Codemasters consistently creates fun and engaging gameplay, and F1 25 continues that tradition. This new version features a continuation of the Braking Point story mode. While it can be a bit over-the-top at times, it’s still a great addition to the game.

F1 25 builds on its enjoyable driving experience with several game modes, including Driver Career and My Team. The game also features stunning tracks faithfully recreated from real-world locations, and players can race a diverse range of cars, including those from the F2 series.

Each game mode has a lot to offer, keeping the game enjoyable for a long time. Whether you’re working your way up from F2 to F1 in Driver Career, or building your own team in My Team to challenge the likes of McLaren, Red Bull, and Mercedes, there’s plenty of depth and replayability.

F1 25 is another excellent racing game from Codemasters, a studio consistently known for delivering high-quality motorsports titles. We’re looking forward to seeing what they do next, especially after their recent big announcement.
