The terrible launch of a new free shooter game is not the end of the world. Highguard devs have a grand battle plan for player appreciation

Highguard didn’t have a great start, but Wildlight Entertainment, the game’s developer, is committed to turning things around. They plan to release significant updates to improve the game, and are already working on new content.

According to Jason Torfin, VP of Product and Publishing, the team always planned to create a game that would be continually updated and expanded. He confirmed this by sharing that they’re already well into development of a full year’s worth of new content for after the game launches. This content will be delivered in episodes, with two parts released every two months.

The initial release of the game featured 5 maps, 8 guardians, and 10 weapons. The next update is expected to arrive within the next few weeks. Developers plan to release new wardens or bases with each update, though the size of these updates will vary. Wildlight Entertainment’s lead designer, Carlos Pineda, stated their main goal is to create a game that players want to keep coming back to. A video detailing their plans was released after the game launched.

Highguard is a free-to-play first-person shooter that launched on January 26th for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
