The highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster hit, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, is now available! The Super Mario Galaxy Movie builds upon a hint from the first film, promising an adventure that spans multiple galaxies. This new installment draws inspiration from several classic Mario games, including Super Mario Galaxy, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Bros. 2, and potentially even elements from Super Smash Bros.
Similar to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie features a large number of characters from throughout the Nintendo universe. Universal Pictures, Illumination Entertainment, and Nintendo have brought in many famous actors to voice these well-known characters. Here’s a look at the complete voice cast for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Mario – Chris Pratt

Mario is the main hero in the Mushroom Kingdom. He first appeared as “Jump Man” in the 1982 game Donkey Kong and quickly became Nintendo’s most popular character. The recent film portrays Mario as a determined and optimistic plumber from New York City who ultimately defeats Bowser. Chris Pratt provides the voice for Mario, just as he did in The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Chris Pratt is most famous for playing Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord, in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, beginning with Guardians of the Galaxy. He first gained recognition for his funny role as Andy Dwyer on Parks and Recreation, but quickly became known for action movies like the Jurassic World series, The Magnificent Seven, and Edge of Tomorrow. Pratt is also a talented voice actor, having voiced characters in The Lego Movie, The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part, and most recently, Garfield in the 2024 film.
Luigi – Charlie Day

Luigi is Mario’s younger brother, and he’s often portrayed as timid. He first appeared in the 1983 game Mario Bros. as a slightly different version of Mario, but over time, Nintendo developed his own unique personality, and he’s gained a dedicated following. Charlie Day provides the voice for Luigi in both The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
Glenn Day is most famous for being a star and creator of the popular FX comedy series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He’s also appeared in several successful films, including the Horrible Bosses movies and the Pacific Rim films. More recently, he’s been in Summer of ’69 and Honey, Don’t! Like Chris Pratt, Day previously provided a voice in The Lego Movie, playing the character Benny the Space Man.
Princess Peach – Anya-Taylor-Joy

As a longtime moviegoer and critic, I’ve watched Princess Peach evolve from a classic ‘damsel in distress’ in the original Super Mario Bros. back in ’85, to a more proactive character in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. What really intrigued me in that recent film was the hint of a hidden past – apparently, she arrived in the Mushroom Kingdom as a baby through some kind of warp pipe! Now, it sounds like The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is finally going to dive into that backstory and give us a deeper understanding of where she comes from. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing that unfold on the big screen.
Anya Taylor-Joy is the voice of Princess Peach. She first gained recognition for her role in the 2015 film The Witch and has since starred in several acclaimed movies including Split, Thoroughbreds, Emma, Last Night in Soho, and The Menu. She recently took on the role of Furiosa, previously played by Charlize Theron, in Furiosa: A Mad Max Story. Next year, 2026, promises to be a busy one for Taylor-Joy, as she’ll return as Princess Peach and also appear as Alia Atreides in Dune: Part Three.
Boswer – Jack Black

Bowser, the famous villain from the Mario games, is a fire-breathing Koopa who first appeared in Super Mario Bros. in 1985. For over 40 years, he’s been Mario’s biggest enemy. The recent movie showed that Bowser’s main goal is to marry Princess Peach, and he’s voiced by Jack Black.
Jack Black has enjoyed a varied career, appearing in films like School of Rock, King Kong, and The Holiday. He’s also one half of the band Tenacious D and a talented voice actor, best known as Po in the Kung Fu Panda movies. Black will return as Professor Sheldon Oberon in Jumanji 4 in 2026. With roles in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, its sequel, and the upcoming A Minecraft Movie in 2025, he’s quickly becoming a major star in video game adaptations.
Toad – Keegan-Michael Key

As a longtime Mario fan, I remember Toad first appearing alongside Peach and Bowser way back in the original Super Mario Bros. in 1985! He, like all Toads, calls the Mushroom Kingdom home. The Toad we see in The Super Mario Bros. Movie and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie feels really inspired by the Captain Toad character from the 2007 game Super Mario Galaxy – it’s a fun connection! And it’s awesome that Keegan-Michael Key voices him in both films. Speaking of Keegan-Michael Key, he’s a seriously talented voice actor! I’ve recognized his voice in so many things – The Lego Movie, Hotel Transylvania 2, The Angry Birds Movie, Toy Story 4, Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers, and even Transformers One – the list goes on and on!
Yoshi – Donald Glover

Yoshi, briefly shown at the end of The Super Mario Bros. Movie, is now a main character in The Super Mario Bros. Galaxy. First appearing in Super Mario World in 1990, Yoshi is a friendly green dinosaur and a close ally of Mario. He’s been a popular part of the Mario universe ever since, showing up in games like Mario Party and Mario Kart, as well as every installment of the Super Smash Bros. series.
Donald Glover, also known as the rapper Childish Gambino, voices Yoshi in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. Interestingly, Glover proactively reached out to Chris Pratt to express his interest in the role, despite the filmmakers initially preferring an unknown voice actor. Glover is widely recognized for his acting work, including his role as Troy Barnes in Community, and appearances in films like Solo: A Star Wars Story, Spider-Man: Homecoming, and the 2019 remake of The Lion King.
Princess Rosalina – Brie Larson

Princess Rosalina is a more recent character in the Super Mario games. She first appeared in Super Mario Galaxy in 2007 and is known as the mother figure to the Lumas, star-like creatures. Early plans for the games included a family connection between Rosalina and Princess Peach, but that idea was later dropped. However, the movie The Super Mario Galaxy Movie hinted that this connection might be revisited.
Princess Rosalina is voiced by Brie Larson, an Academy Award-winning actress and big Nintendo fan. Larson won an Oscar for her performance in Room and has starred in popular films like Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, 21 Jump Street, and The Spectacular Now. She’s also well-known for playing Captain Marvel in the Marvel Cinematic Universe – a powerful, space-themed character, much like Rosalina.
Bowser Jr. – Benny Safdie

Bowser Jr. is the son of Bowser. He first appeared in the 2002 game Super Mario Sunshine and is portrayed as a gifted child with talents in both magic and science, eager to be just like his father. The recent Super Mario Galaxy Movie takes inspiration from Bowser Jr.’s original look and incorporates design choices from the game Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
Benny Safdie, one half of the directing team the Safdie brothers (known for films like Good Time and Uncut Gems), provides the voice for Bowser Jr. Safdie is also an actor, with recent roles in Licorice Pizza, Are You There God, It’s Me Margaret, and Oppenheimer. He’ll be working with director Christopher Nolan again in the 2026 film The Odyssey, where he’ll play the character Agamemnon.
Fox McCloud – Glen Powell

A surprising announcement reveals that Fox McCloud from the Star Fox video game series will appear in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie. Similar to how Donkey Kong was featured in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Nintendo appears to be using the Mario films to introduce and potentially launch spin-off movies for other franchises, with a Super Smash Bros. movie as a possible future project.
Glen Powell will be the voice of Fox McCloud in the upcoming film, a role he announced just a week before its release. Powell is known for his work in popular movies like Top Gun: Maverick and Twisters, and has also received praise for films such as Hit Man. His most recent project was How to Make a Killing from A24.
Wart – Luis Guzmán

A surprising addition to The Super Mario Bros. Movie is the villain Wart. He originally appeared in Super Mario Bros. 2 from 1988, which was a modified version of the Japanese game Yume Kōjō: Doki Doki Panic released in North America.
Luis Guzmán, a well-known actor from films like Boogie Nights, Magnolia, and Punch Drunk Love, will voice the character Wart. He’s also appeared in The Limey, Anger Management, and He’s Just Not That Into You, and currently plays Gomez Addams in the Netflix series Wednesday.
Other Notable Nintendo Characters

Just like the first movie, the upcoming The Super Mario Galaxy Movie will include lots of quick appearances by characters from across the Nintendo universe. Issa Rae, known for her popular show Insecure and films like Barbie, The Lovebirds, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, will voice Queen Bee. Veteran voice actor Kevin Michael Richardson is also returning to play Kamek, Bowser’s magical advisor.
Okay, so it looks like they’re digging deep into Nintendo history for this Super Mario Galaxy Movie! It’s not just Wart from Super Mario Bros. 2 making an appearance – the trailers showed Birdo and Mouser too, which is fantastic. They haven’t announced who will voice these characters yet, though. And it’s not just Fox McCloud representing the Super Smash Bros. universe. We’re getting cameos from the Pikmin – yes, the little plant creatures! – and even R.O.B. Interestingly, the director, Ed Skudder, is actually providing the voice for R.O.B. – a fun bit of insider casting!
