The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Post-Credit Scenes Officially Set Up New Spinoff

Scenes after the credits roll aren’t exclusive to Marvel movies anymore. Many other films are now including them, and this one is joining the trend.

Okay, so it’s been nearly three years since The Super Mario Bros. Movie absolutely smashed box office records, and now Mario and Luigi are taking their adventures to space! While critics haven’t been blown away this time around, audiences are clearly having a blast. And a big plus? The post-credits scenes definitely hint at even bigger things to come, potentially opening up the whole Mario universe even further.

What Happens in the Super Mario Galaxy Movie Post-Credit Scenes?

As a big movie fan, I was excited to see The Super Mario Galaxy Movie reunite Chris Pratt, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, and Jack Black as Mario, Peach, Luigi, and Bowser! It’s cool they’re bringing back the original voice cast. Plus, the new additions – Brie Larson as Princess Rosalina and Benny Safdie as Bowser Jr. – sound fantastic. Apparently, Bowser Jr. actually kidnaps Rosalina to try and steal her powers, which is a pretty interesting twist!

One of the scenes after the credits ends quickly with a playful moment: Glen Powell, playing Fox McCloud, walks out of the prison holding Bowser and Bowser Jr. When Toad asks what he plans to do, Fox hints that he’s going home, suggesting a continuation of the story in a future movie.

Just a week before the Super Mario Bros. Movie was released, Nintendo shared a poster featuring Fox McCloud, a character from the Super Smash Bros. series. This suggested he might have a significant role in the film. While Fox didn’t end up being central to the story, the post-credits scene likely hints at future adventures for him, potentially back in his own universe.

The second scene after the credits shows Princess Daisy for the first time, taking place in a central location within the game’s world. While it’s a fun moment – she simply punches a thieving monkey – she doesn’t say anything. This brief appearance hints at more to come if the game gets a sequel that does well.

I really loved how the movie ended and it got me so excited for what could come next! It definitely felt like they were building towards something much bigger, and as a fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, I think the Super Mario world is a perfect fit for that kind of expanded storytelling – especially as an animated series. It just feels like a natural transition and a really cool direction to take things.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Debuted With an Underwhelming Score

The Super Mario Bros. Movie received very mixed reviews – critics didn’t love it, giving it a 59% approval rating, but audiences were enthusiastic, with a 95% rating. Despite the critical reception, the movie was a huge financial hit, earning $1.3 billion on a $100 million production cost.

Like Super Mario Galaxy, the new game had a budget of around $110 million. It’s expected to be very successful financially, with predictions exceeding $350 million in sales – easily covering its development costs. However, early reviews haven’t been overwhelmingly positive.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie premieres in theaters on Apr. 1.
