The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Super Bowl clip depicts Yoshi’s powers
The new trailer for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie shows Yoshi fighting and using his signature ability to eat enemies – we even see him swallow Kamek! This happens during a battle with Bowser Jr., who declares that a major fight is about to begin.
The animated sequel, directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, is coming to theaters on April 1, 2026, courtesy of Universal Pictures. Chris Pratt reprises his role as Mario, and Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Day, Keegan-Michael Key, and Jack Black all return as Princess Peach, Luigi, Toad, and Bowser, respectively. Benny Safdie is back as Bowser Jr., and Brie Larson joins the cast as Rosalina, who protects the Lumas.
The trailer reveals the movie takes place not just in the Mushroom Kingdom, but also in outer space! Mario and Luigi join forces with Princess Peach and Toad, encountering Yoshi and traveling to planets where gravity changes. The film promises a huge, cosmic adventure filled with beautiful sights like glowing nebulae and sparkling pathways between the stars.
Rosalina takes on a key role, helping the heroes navigate difficult challenges in space. Bowser Jr., brought to life by Safdie, becomes a new villain, and Kamek (voiced by Kevin Michael Richardson) directly opposes the main characters. Fans will be happy to see Yoshi join the team, becoming an important part of the group.
Illumination and Nintendo collaborated on both The Super Mario Galaxy Movie and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, the latter of which grossed over $1.3 billion worldwide. Chris Meledandri and Shigeru Miyamoto produced both films, and Matthew Fogel wrote the scripts.
The first trailer for the movie was shown during the 2026 Super Bowl on NBC and Peacock, as the Seattle Seahawks played the New England Patriots. The preview emphasized the film’s grand scale and how it’s becoming a true space adventure.
