A standout feature of the series is how incredibly powerful its characters become. As the story went on, the main hero, Mark Grayson, had to constantly grow stronger to keep up with his enemies. Even then, he often failed or barely managed to win. This led to a remarkable group of characters, with power levels reaching unbelievable heights.
The Viltrumites are an incredibly powerful alien race, home to some of the strongest characters in the Invincible series, like Invincible and his father, Omni-Man. Within this race, some individuals are far more powerful than others. With the TV show gaining popularity and a trailer recently released for season four, it’s a good time to explore who the strongest Viltrumites are, both those we’ve already seen and those who might appear in the show.
Oliver Grayson’s Considerable Potential Never Bears Fruit
Oliver Grayson was first seen as a baby in the second season of Invincible, but he grew up very quickly. Christian Convery joined the show’s cast in season three to voice Oliver as a young boy. Unlike his half-brother Mark, Oliver’s mother, Andressa, is an alien from the planet Thrax, meaning he only shares half of his genes with his father. Interestingly, Oliver doesn’t seem to appreciate the value of life as much as his mother, Debbie, or brother, Mark, would like. He also develops his powers rapidly, making it difficult for his family or the Global Defense Agency to control him.
During Season 3, Oliver violently defeats one Mauler, and then brutally kills the second in a particularly graphic fight on Prime Video. What bothers Mark – and many fans – is that Oliver shows no remorse for killing the Mauler twins. This, combined with the possibility that Oliver is recovering faster and is smarter than his brother, could foreshadow trouble for the rest of the season.
Although Oliver had several disagreements with Mark, they fought together during the Viltrumite War. However, he was quickly defeated by Conquest and ultimately killed by Thragg. Because he was young and lacked experience, Oliver wasn’t a particularly strong Viltrumite, making him one of the weakest.
The Unnamed Executioners Nearly Kill Nolan & Allen the Alien
Okay, so I’ve noticed something cool in Invincible – almost all the Viltrumites have these thick, black mustaches! You definitely see it with the executioners in Season 2. Honestly, the show doesn’t really bother with who these guys are, though. They’re just kind of cannon fodder, totally unlike Nolan. They don’t have any power or backstory, they’re just there to do the dirty work.
The Viltrumite executioners ridiculed Nolan for not living up to the Viltrumite ideal, pointing out he was a disappointment compared to the heroes of their stories. Despite not being as physically strong as other Viltrumites, they were able to withstand the Scourge Virus, proving their incredible toughness. They had been sent to kill Nolan for what they considered his betrayal of the Viltrumite Empire, and they began relentlessly beating him as punishment for this crime.
The Viltrumite warriors proved incredibly powerful, even managing to injure Nolan and continue fighting after Allen saved him. They were clearly capable of causing massive destruction on weaker planets. It actually took the combined strength of Nolan, Allen, and Battle Beast to finally defeat them.
Thula, Lucan and Vidor Are Defeated by Omni-Man and Invincible
As a huge fan, I was completely blown away by the reveal in the Season 1 finale! Nolan finally told Mark about his home world, Viltrum, and how they’re basically this incredibly powerful race of warrior aliens. He made it sound like they were the strongest in the universe, and honestly, everything we’ve seen so far seems to back that up. It was a little weird though, because even with all this build-up about Viltrum and its history, we didn’t actually meet any Viltrumites other than Nolan and Mark until Season 2! It made me wonder why they held off on showing us more of them for so long.
Thula, Lucan, and Vidor first fought and defeated Allen the Alien, then continued their pursuit of Omni-Man. They reached the planet Thraxa and violently killed its inhabitants. Invincible tried to intervene, but arrived too late to save them. A short, intense fight followed, and Omni-Man fatally wounded Lucan. Afterwards, Omni-Man battled and defeated Vidor, while Invincible fought and overcame Thula.
Lucan appears, badly hurt but surviving, and has contacted General Kregg for help – to rescue his friends and capture Omni-Man. While Thula and Lucan have similar roles to their comic book counterparts, Vidor was created specifically for the Amazon TV series. These three fighters are typical Viltrumite soldiers, functioning mainly as foot soldiers.
An Unnamed Army of Viltrumites Prepares for Galactic War
The new trailer for Invincible Season 4 hints at the coming war with the Viltrumites. This storyline also appears in the original comic books, and as with past adaptations, viewers are eager to see how the showrunners will bring it to life, and potentially even improve upon it.
The trailer reveals Omni-Man’s comeback with a new partner, Allen the Alien, marking the beginning of a galactic war against the Viltrumites. Immediately after, we see an army of Viltrumites – a force we haven’t encountered yet in the series. Even a brief glimpse shows just how powerful they are. Since we’ve only seen Viltrumites fighting in small groups before, this massive army promises a new wave of intense and brutal conflict.
A recent interview with SFX Magazine revealed that season four of the show will focus heavily on the Viltrumites. It won’t just be about the war with them, but also about understanding why they act the way they do – their history, and the details of their culture that viewers have been fascinated by since the beginning.
Thaedus’ Strength Hasn’t Diminished with His Advanced Age
Thaedus was the first of many Viltrumites to turn against his people, and he’s been working to stop their expansion for a long time. He killed Emperor Argall—Nolan’s father—and then created and led the Coalition of Planets. Although he looks older than most Viltrumites, Thaedus is incredibly powerful due to his advanced age.
Thaedus is a remarkably seasoned member of his species, having survived the deadly Scourge virus. He first appears in battle during the Viltrumite War, where Kregg viciously attacked him for opposing his own people. Afterward, he saved Tech Jacket from being killed by Anissa.
Thaedus demonstrated incredible strength by assisting Mark, Oliver, and Tech Jacket in launching a ship into space, showing he was still remarkably powerful. He later teamed up with Nolan and Mark to circle the planet at such high speeds that they shattered Viltrium. Sadly, Thaedus was killed during an attack by Thragg, who severed his head.
Anissa Is One of Invincible’s Most Terrifying Villains
With more and more Viltrumites appearing, some are naturally weaker than the strongest characters. Several of Thragg’s children, who are only half-Viltrumite, quickly lost to pure-blooded Viltrumites in fights. Even among them, Omni-Man is noticeably more powerful than most of his opponents.
Among the powerful characters in Invincible, Anissa is particularly formidable. She initially comes to Earth with the mission of controlling Mark and ensuring his loyalty to the Viltrumite Empire. Later, she engages in a major battle with Omni-Man during the Viltrumite War. While she remains a presence throughout much of the comic series, she isn’t often shown at full strength.
In a shocking and controversial moment in Invincible #110, Anissa committed a terrible act by overpowering and assaulting Invincible, immediately establishing her as a truly frightening villain. Because Invincible’s powers are fully mature, it’s clear that Anissa is among the most powerful beings in the series.
Kregg Is a Distinguished General in the Viltrumite Army
Kregg is a powerful Viltrumite general, easily one of the strongest of his race. He briefly appeared in a flashback during the Season 1 finale, shown standing over the bodies of fallen Viltrumites – though he didn’t have his cybernetic eye at that time. When Kregg arrives on Thraxas, Omni-Man and Invincible are already worn out from fighting Lucan, Thula, and Vidor, and are unable to defend themselves.
Kregg praises Invincible for his battle with Thula, recognizing him as a skilled fighter. He then announces Omni-Man’s execution and tasks Mark with completing it on Earth. While Kregg has a smaller part in the second half of Season 2, we see him physically overpowering Omni-Man while he’s imprisoned. Known for his composure, Kregg is powerful but isn’t as ruthless as some others; he prefers to win fights without excessive violence.
Throughout the comic’s story, Kregg fights in many battles, including against Allen the Alien, Thaedus, and Space Racer during the Viltrumite War. His fight with Allen is probably his most intense, though he gets assistance from Anissa and others to overcome the incredibly powerful alien. Given his moderate Viltrumite strength, Kregg is considered one of the mid-tier fighters.
Omni-Man Was Initially Stronger Than Invincible
Omni-Man, despite appearing as Earth’s benevolent guardian, was actually one of the most powerful and dangerous characters in the Invincible universe. His devastating fight with Invincible shockingly revealed his true nature, and their brutal battle became an iconic moment in comic book history.
The fight showcased incredible power, starting with the older Grayson’s first punch, which destroyed skyscrapers and caused massive casualties. As seen in Season 2, Part 1, he demonstrated his cunning by manipulating Mark into locating him on another planet. The battle that followed, against two exceptionally strong opponents, further emphasized his immense strength.
Throughout the comic, Omni-Man consistently proves he’s more powerful than most Viltrumites, often battling and defeating two or three of them simultaneously. He’s significantly stronger and faster than his son, Invincible, for much of the story, constantly challenging him to improve. However, a select few Viltrumites do eventually demonstrate comparable strength.
Conquest Nearly Kills Invincible During Their Duel
The Invincible comic always features intense action, but Conquest takes it to another level. He’s a particularly brutal fighter, easily standing out even in this violent world. You can tell by his appearance – a prominent scar across his face and a robotic arm – that he’s a force to be reckoned with.
Conquest is one of the oldest and strongest Viltrumites in Invincible, having lived for thousands of years and only been harmed by the Scourge Virus. He’s so experienced that he’s never even lost a planet in battle. When he comes to Earth, it seems nearly impossible to defeat him. He almost killed Invincible, with her powers managing to destroy half of his body, but even that wasn’t enough to finish him off.
Conquest breaks free from the massive metal prison he was trapped in just days later, leading to a brutal rematch with Invincible. The fight nearly kills Invincible, and he’s left struggling for months. Though Invincible ultimately wins by using his intelligence, it was an incredibly close battle that could easily have gone Conquest’s way.
The Alternate Invincibles Play a Huge Role in Season 3
As a huge Invincible fan, I was blown away by Season 3 when they started showing off all these different universes! It turns out there are a ton of evil versions of Mark Grayson out there, and Angstrom Levy brought them all to Earth to get revenge on our Invincible. Let me tell you, things got crazy fast when those variants showed up – total chaos!
Multiple versions of Invincible caused widespread destruction in cities like Tokyo and London, resulting in millions of deaths, including some superheroes. These alternate Invincibles were nicknamed based on their unique looks – Hairvincible, Hoodvincible, Gogglesvincible, Capevincible, and Movincihawk, among others. But when they demanded the rewards Levy had promised, he instead banished them and any remaining survivors to a desolate dimension known as the Wasteland.
During battles, many defeated enemies were converted into Reanimen by Cecil and the GDA. These individuals, sometimes called Reani-Marks, are expected to demonstrate considerable power if they reappear in future seasons.
