Okay, gamers, listen up! The complete Sopranos Blu-ray set is seriously on sale right now – only $49.49 at both Amazon and Walmart. It’s been out for a while, since 2020, but this is the first time I’ve seen it under fifty bucks! If you’re thinking of getting this for a friend (or yourself, no judgment!), I’d go with Walmart. Amazon’s saying new orders won’t arrive until after Christmas, which is a bummer. Honestly, I don’t know how long this deal will last, so I’m grabbing a copy right now before it’s gone!
I was looking to get The Sopranos on DVD, but it’s surprisingly five dollars more expensive than the Blu-ray right now with this sale! I guess I’m going with Blu-ray then.
The Sopranos, a hugely popular HBO series that aired from 1999 to 2007, tells the story of Tony Soprano (played by James Gandolfini), a mob boss trying to navigate family life. Tony is a remarkably well-developed character, and the show is compelling because it humanizes a typically intimidating figure. It explores the challenges of balancing the demands of leading a criminal organization with being a husband and father. Throughout its six seasons, The Sopranos received critical acclaim, winning 21 Emmy Awards and 5 Golden Globes.
Many people consider The Sopranos to be one of the greatest TV shows ever created, and it’s certainly been the most influential of the 21st century. It launched the current era of high-quality, critically acclaimed television, and popularized shows built around complex, morally ambiguous characters. The Sopranos‘ success helped make way for another HBO hit, The Wire, a five-season crime drama set in Baltimore that ran from 2002 to 2008. The Wire frequently appears at the top of “best TV shows of all time” lists. Right now, you can find The Wire: The Complete Series on Blu-ray for around $50.49, and the DVD version is on sale for just $35.41.
The Sopranos prequel film, The Many Saints of Newark, came out in 2021. You can currently buy the 4K Blu-ray for $22.49, down from $28, or the standard 1080p Blu-ray for just $9.
