The Sonic Movie Universe Keeps Expanding

Paramount Pictures is making another Sonic the Hedgehog movie, planned for release in cinemas on December 22, 2028. They’re describing it as a film expanding the world of Sonic the Hedgehog.

Paramount is planning a fifth Sonic the Hedgehog movie, following the fourth film currently set for release in March 2027. While the fourth movie’s release date is known, details about the fifth film are still a secret – all that’s been confirmed is that it will take place within the Sonic universe, according to Deadline.

The Sonic the Hedgehog movies have earned over $1.2 billion worldwide, which explains why Paramount is continuing the franchise. In 2024, they released a spin-off TV show focused on the character Knuckles for their streaming service, Paramount+. It’s currently unknown whether the show will be renewed for another season.

Now that David Ellison’s Skydance has acquired Paramount, the company is reportedly interested in buying Warner Bros. Discovery, though it’s unclear if an agreement will be reached.

Paramount is expanding the Call of Duty franchise into a live-action movie, partnering with Activision. The project is being driven by a passionate fan of the game, Michael Ellison (son of Oracle’s Larry Ellison), who has enlisted Taylor Sheridan (known for Hell or High Water) to help write the screenplay. Peter Berg, the director of the war film Lone Survivor, is set to direct.

Video game fans have a lot to look forward to in 2027! We’ll see the fourth ‘Sonic’ movie in March, followed by a live-action ‘Zelda’ film in May, and then a sequel to ‘A Minecraft Movie’ in July.
