The Kickstarter launch for The Sinking City 2 is now active, with Frogwares providing a glimpse of the game through a detailed update on its development progress. The team has explained that the crowdfunding campaign will serve as a protective measure for the developers, while also allowing them to incorporate extra features in the game. At present, they are seeking $105,000 in funds, and like their previous Kickstarter effort for Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened, they plan to offer various perks to supporters based on specific milestones that are achieved.
As a gamer, I find myself immersed in a world where the line between virtual and reality often blurs. In this case, it’s hard to ignore the harsh truth that our studio is launching a new campaign during a challenging time, both for us and Ukraine, as the three-year-old war with Russia continues unabated. I, along with my fellow gamers and team members at Frogwares, have learned to adapt amidst this ongoing conflict. However, it’s never been easy. As our CEO, Wael Amr, stated in a press release, “After three years of this grueling war overshadowing our daily lives, we’ve had to learn to adapt, but it has never been simple.
In 2023, when we launched Sherlock Holmes: The Awakened with the support of Kickstarter and our dedicated fans, we established a safety net that proved invaluable. Whether it was power outages, unexpected team member relocations, or extended development halts due to various reasons, this safety net was essential. Considering that The Sinking City 2 is a significantly complex and demanding project, we’ve chosen to follow the same path as before.
In the upcoming sequel to “The Sinking City 2”, developers Frogwares assure fans that they will prioritize horror elements throughout the gameplay experience. The core mechanics revolve around combat and exploration, providing an immersive journey for players. Similar to its predecessor, the game will be deeply influenced by the works of H.P. Lovecraft, inviting you to delve into the crumbling city of Arkham. You’ll need to scavenge for scarce resources, uncover numerous mysteries within a morally ambiguous world, and encounter an enlarged Cthulhu mythos.
According to Frogwares Publishing Director, Sergiy Oganesyan, we haven’t abandoned our investigative origins completely, but expanding our horizons and pushing the boundaries has significantly aided team development. He stated that combat and exploration take priority, yet there’s still an undercurrent of investigation that provides depth, although it’s entirely optional.
The sequel to 2019’s The Sinking City has had a lengthy journey due to a well-known dispute between developer Frogwares and publisher Nacon over the game’s ownership rights that occurred some years ago. However, The Sinking City 2 was finally revealed in March 2024, although its exact release date is still undetermined. It will be available on PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
