The Sinking City 2 Delayed to Early 2026

Fans of mystery games and Lovecraftian horror will have to wait a bit longer for The Sinking City 2. The Ukrainian developer, Frogwares, recently announced the game is now scheduled to release in the first six months of 2026.

Following the success of the 2019 horror game The Sinking City, a sequel, The Sinking City 2, was revealed in March 2024 during an Xbox presentation. It was originally planned for release in 2025.

Unlike the first game, The Sinking City 2 is aiming for a more intense, survival horror experience. It will still feature a chilling story inspired by Lovecraft, but with detective work playing a less central role – it’s now optional.

Because of difficulties caused by the war in Ukraine, the release of The Sinking City 2 has been postponed until early 2026.

The Status of The Sinking City 2

Frogwares announced on its website and the Kickstarter page for The Sinking City 2 that the war in Ukraine has created significant challenges for the studio, including regular power outages and a difficult, unsafe working environment.

Frogwares has decided to postpone the release of The Sinking City 2 due to the current challenging circumstances. They’ll use this additional time to refine the game, as it represents their first venture into true survival horror.

The team at Frogwares is striving to make The Sinking City 2 a truly immersive and disturbing experience for both longtime fans and new players, focusing on creating a tense and unsettling atmosphere.

Frogwares recently released some early screenshots of The Sinking City 2. They show the city of Arkham in the early 1900s being overtaken by a strange flood, and feature the game’s new main character investigating the flooded ruins both on foot and by boat.

Since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, Ukrainian game developers like Frogwares and GSC Game World (the creators of S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl) have faced challenges continuing their work and securing financial support. Frogwares, for example, launched a Kickstarter campaign in early 2025 to help fund their projects.
