The Sims 4 is introducing a new in-game shop where players can buy custom content created by other players using real money, exchanged through a virtual currency named Moola.
For several years, EA has been slowly changing how players get new content in The Sims 4, moving towards a system where content is regularly purchased. They started by collaborating with players to create small content packs called Kits, then introduced larger Creator Kits. Now, they’ve expanded this further with Maker Packs – collections of items for designing Sims and building homes – available through a new in-game store called the Marketplace.
EA takes 70% from custom content creators in new Sims 4 Marketplace
Electronic Arts (EA) revealed a new Marketplace for The Sims 4, letting talented custom content creators – known as Makers – share and sell their designs directly within the game. The Marketplace will first become available on PC and Mac on March 17, 2026, and will later expand to consoles in the following months.

Players use a currency called Moola to buy items in the game. Moola can be purchased from the game’s store in different amounts: $2.49 gets you 200 Moola, $4.99 gets 500, $9.99 gets 1,000, $24.99 gets 2,600, and $49.99 gets 5,500. Even small item packs cost around $2.49, as they typically start at 200 Moola.
Okay, so I’ve been checking out some of the creator packs, like the Nona Set by Mechtasims, and they usually cost around 400 Moola, which works out to be a little under $5. It’s cool that creators get to set their own prices, but EA has some rules. The biggest thing is, creators only get about 30% of what people pay for their stuff. EA keeps the other 70%. Basically, if someone spends $1 on a pack (100 Moola), the creator gets 30 cents. It’s good they’re getting something, but that split feels a little rough.
Once the Marketplace launches, Kits will only be available for purchase there using Moola, the in-game currency. If you already own any Kits, you’ll still have access to them in your collection.
Before The Sims 4 Marketplace was introduced, players who made custom content for the game shared their creations – like new objects, textures, and 3D models – on websites, Patreon, and sites like The Sims Resource. This meant everything existed outside of the actual game itself.
