EA is throwing a party reminiscent of 2004, as they commemorate the 25th anniversary of their iconic franchise, The Sims, by re-releasing The Sims and The Sims 2 with all their additional content, compatible with current systems. Since many of us haven’t delved into The Sims 2 for quite some time, as EA ceased support when they launched The Sims 3 in 2009, we might find it helpful to revisit this classic game. Thankfully, there are still plenty of cheat codes available for The Sims 2 at our disposal.
It’s great to note that The Sims 2 offers a significant number of cheats compared to its predecessor, The Sims 1. Much like many first sequels, The Sims 2 laid the groundwork for many series conventions, making the way you can cheat in The Sims 2 similar to how you can cheat in The Sims 4. As a result, returning to The Sims 2 is generally more accessible now than going back to The Sims 1 due to this familiarity.
As a gamer diving into the vibrant world of The Sims 2, one thing that’s remained constant since day one is this: I hit ctrl+shift+C to summon the console, ready for me to input my secret cheat codes without any fuss. No need to meddle with the game files; this console works out-of-the-box. Once you’ve opened it, simply type in one of the codes listed below and let the fun times roll! Just remember that The Sims 2 doesn’t double-check if you’ve entered the code correctly, so pay attention to the case sensitivity of some codes – make sure to key them in exactly as written here.
In The Sims 2, there are two types of shortcuts or tricks to manipulate the game: one is through the use of console commands, while the other relies on the game’s user interface. Let’s discuss the console commands first.
Cheat code | Effect |
---|---|
kaching | adds 1,000 simoleons |
motherlode | adds 50,000 simoleons |
familyFunds [last name] [number] | sets the given family’s funds to the stated amount |
maxMotives | fills all needs for all sims on the current lot |
motiveDecay [on/off] | toggles need decay for all sims on the current lot |
aging [on/off] | toggles aging for all sims on current lot |
disablePuppyKittenAging [on/off] | toggles aging for pets |
aspirationLevel [0-5] | sets the selected sim’s aspiration meter |
aspiration points [number] | adds aspiration points to the current sim |
unlockCareerRewards | unlocks items you’d normally have to level your career to earn |
setHour [0-23] | set the time of day according to a 24-hour clock |
slowMotion [1-8] | slows down the game–the higher the number, the slower it goes |
stretchSkeletion [multiplier] | makes the selected sim taller or shorter–1.5 makes you 1.5x taller. |
moveObjects on | allows you to pick up or delete any object–this is different from MoveObjects in The Sims 4 |
setQuarterTilePlacement [on/off] | allows much more granular placement of items in build mode |
boolProp testingcheatsenabled true | enables cheats that you activate by shift+clicking on things |
Just like how the ‘moveObjects’ cheat functioned differently in The Sims 1, it operates distinctly from the same cheat in The Sims 4, which enables closer placement of build objects than the usual game grid. In contrast, the ‘moveObjects’ cheat in The Sims 2 allows you to literally move or even delete any object within the game world.
Interface cheats in The Sims 2
As a dedicated gamer of The Sims 2, I’ve stumbled upon an intriguing aspect of this game – hidden cheats! Apart from the cheats mentioned earlier, there lies a whole treasure trove of other cheats just waiting to be discovered. To unlock these, you need to hold down the shift key while clicking on a sim or an object within the game. This action will trigger a special menu filled with cheats.
To access this hidden stash, first, ensure that the testingcheatsenabled is activated by typing boolProp testingcheatsenabled true into the console. Once you’ve done this, you’ll be able to use these user-interface (UI) cheats at your leisure. Mostly, you’ll find yourself using cheats that become available when you shift+click on a sim or their mailbox.
As an enthusiastic player, I discovered two secret console commands that open up a world of additional options:
1. The addNeighborToFamilyCheat [on/off]. This command gives you the ability to add a sim to a household by simply shift+clicking them when it’s activated.
2. Another fascinating command is the ageSimsCheat [on/off], which allows you to manually set a sim’s age as per your preference.
Keep reading for a list of amazing things you can accomplish with these cheats!
