It’s amazing Angie has survived this long, considering she seems determined to injure herself with dramatic falls every week. After crashing into a pile of glasses last week, she wakes up with a badly bruised and swollen lip that shocks Mary. However, it’s worth noting we’ve seen worse injuries on these shows from elective cosmetic surgery – and at least we won’t be guessing for seasons about whether this bruise came from a fight with Jen Shah. Adding to the chaos, her heel gets caught on a cobblestone street in Greece, causing her to fall into a strange, almost gravity-defying pose… but somehow, she manages to stay on her feet!
It’s strange that Meredith woke up so cheerful and made coffee for everyone, considering Bronwyn revealed she was in a complete panic just hours before. Meredith had called Bronwyn, convinced the others were plotting against her and asking about a conversation Mary and the group had during lunch. Mary dismissed it as paranoia, but it turns out Meredith was right to be suspicious – the women were talking about her and, for the most part, trying to undermine her.
When Bronwyn talked to Meredith about their previous conversation, Meredith flatly denied ever asking about what happened at lunch. Bronwyn, clearly shocked, described feeling completely confused and bewildered – almost as if she’d looked up a bunch of synonyms for those feelings. Meredith insisted that the conversation had actually gone the other way – she claimed she was the one comforting a worried Bronwyn. Bronwyn couldn’t understand why she would have been nervous, joking that it wasn’t like Todd was around to cause trouble. This denial, however, was the final straw for Bronwyn, who felt Meredith had been manipulating her to get information. She angrily told Meredith that she wouldn’t find anyone else to use, as Bronwyn felt she had nothing left to offer.
The tension finally surfaced later that day in the van when the others noticed Meredith’s standoffish behavior. She insisted again that she hadn’t questioned Bronwyn about lunch, explaining, “I didn’t ask a question, I just made a comment.” This explained everything – Meredith is skilled with words. She expertly manipulates language to avoid being directly implicated in anything. What Bronwyn thought was a question about lunch was probably a carefully worded statement designed to get a response, but technically, Meredith could truthfully claim she never actually asked anything.
Okay, so everything’s on hold for a minute because the women are going to see a play – and get this, it’s about them! It’s not Book of Mormon (though that would’ve been fun!), but an original Greek tragedy. Apparently, Angie hired a playwright named Stella to interview the ladies and write a play based on their whole group. Honestly, I’m kicking myself that I didn’t get that job! I feel like I’ve basically been doing the same thing all season – documenting their lives and turning it into a story!
This play is a strange and fascinating look at the reality TV show, The Real Housewives. We already know being on television changes these women – some get plastic surgery, some get divorced, and some alter their personalities. But this play takes it a step further, showing us what it’s like to watch them watch themselves. It’s a theatrical exploration of each woman’s personality and how they relate to each other, highlighting their insecurities. For instance, Heather is seen as using humor to mask her feelings, Lisa relies on possessions, and Angie uses sarcasm. The actors all wear masks, creating a surreal atmosphere like a recap episode of the show done in the style of the film Eyes Wide Shut. This production is so good, it deserves to tour and eventually play on Broadway. With some music by Nell Benjamin and a tryout at New World Stages, Stella could very well be winning a Tony Award soon.
The response to the play was surprisingly positive. I expected Lisa, as one of the original members, to have opinions, but she remained silent. Instead, the play seemed to deeply affect everyone, forcing them to confront their flaws and recognize their interdependence. Lisa and Angie reconciled, Meredith admitted to hiding behind technicalities, and Bronwyn broke down over her betrayal. It’s achieving more healing than any of their past gatherings. Now, they need to send Stella to New Jersey.
Just when things were going smoothly for the group, Heather unexpectedly brought up the argument between Meredith and Bronwyn, even though it wasn’t relevant to the current situation. This is because Heather naturally thinks like a TV producer – she instinctively knows what makes a good story and how to create drama. While this can be helpful, it sometimes goes too far. Sensing the season was ending, she felt things were too peaceful and needed some conflict. So, she deliberately stirred up the old disagreement, disrupting what seemed like a positive resolution.
Meredith throws her hands up in frustration, explaining, “This is why I keep to myself.” She feels like she’s immediately met with anger whenever she tries to share her thoughts, so she doesn’t see the point in continuing. She quickly walks away, which is typical when she feels unsupported. Mary, upset, calls out to the group, questioning why they bother being together if they can’t be honest and supportive friends.
When Meredith returned, she asked what everyone was trying to achieve. Mary then stepped in and explained that they were all worried about Meredith, feeling like she was struggling. Meredith insisted she was fine, but Mary gently pushed back. Eventually, Meredith admitted she was sad at times and became emotional as she shared that she felt responsible for many things. This breakthrough allowed the other women to express their concerns and explain why they’d been worried about her.
Whitney explained that she only used harsh language like ‘pill-popper’ and ‘alcoholic’ because that’s how she understood erratic behavior, based on her relationship with her father. Bronwyn then shared that she also withdraws when dealing with her own marital issues, but Meredith quickly dismissed this, insisting her marriage is solid. Suddenly, Bronwyn revealed she’d seen Seth during a dinner with Meredith and Todd, seemingly realizing time was running out to share this information. Predictably, Meredith became upset and walked away, leaving Lisa to scold Bronwyn for her. Lisa pointed out that this is why Meredith is guarded, and the group then ironically demanded Meredith open up about her problems while simultaneously using them against her.
Honestly, I’m starting to wonder if this drama is really about friendship, or just about the show itself. It’s bothering me that Meredith seems so unwilling to share what’s going on in her life compared to the rest of us. Bronwyn hit the nail on the head – I think Meredith cares more about looking like she has it all together than actually being a good friend. It feels like on reality TV, being open and vulnerable is expected, and we’ve all been sharing our struggles. So when Meredith suddenly clams up, it’s frustrating. It’s like we all agreed to be open and honest, and then she backed out at the last minute. It just feels unfair.
Throughout the season, everyone tried to get her to open up, but she remained completely closed off. This led to a strange situation where the cast had to address the issue indirectly, almost as if acknowledging they were on a TV show. Everyone except Lisa essentially put her on the defensive, and the season concluded with this unresolved tension. Hopefully, the reunion will provide some answers, making it more difficult for her to avoid explaining herself.
