Okay, so we’ve finally figured out what’s really going on with Angel. Honestly, it’s not good. Jassi let us know off-camera that things weren’t what they seemed, and she was right. It turns out Angel is being pretty nasty because she’s having a hard time adjusting to not being the most popular wife anymore. It’s a real mean girl situation, and it’s a bit sad to see.
I’ve been unsure how to view Angel for the past few weeks. I initially thought her behavior stemmed from being a new, insecure mom who wasn’t prepared for the pressures of the show. While I still believe that’s part of it, it’s becoming clear she’s deliberately hiding a mean side. She constantly emphasizes her husband’s experience and status in the league, claims he’s close friends with everyone on the show, and gets upset when others bring drama near her. She’s good at pretending she’s innocent whenever someone like Wendy confronts her, quickly distancing herself from any conflict. However, this week we’ll see her talking with her sister, and it seems like her true personality will finally be revealed.
Let’s be clear: I don’t mind a bit of drama on these shows, and sometimes I even enjoy it. Every ‘Housewives’ franchise needs someone willing to confront others, like Kenya or Tamra. This isn’t a show about everyone getting along – it’s ‘Housewives,’ and it’s meant to be a competitive, often harsh environment fueled by societal pressures. I often think about Kenya Moore’s bold statement on ‘Watch What Happens Live’ – she’d rather die than be an unemployed, older white man. I appreciate a strong personality who doesn’t apologize for speaking their mind. The problem is, Angel’s sister is the one with that fire, not Angel herself. Angel had chances to defend herself against Gizelle and Wendy’s jabs – and she’s right, they did come at her quickly – but she couldn’t bring herself to do it in the moment. Through her sister, though, she finally unleashed some pointed remarks: calling Wendy’s lips unkind, comparing her eyes to Forrest Whitaker’s, pointing out the women’s less impressive homes, and accusing Gizelle of editing her photos to hide her age. She also suggested the women are followers obsessed with status. If Angel had said even a fraction of that when it happened, she’d be in a much better position now. It’s clear Angel needs someone to give her the confidence to speak up, and she’s not used to standing up for herself without support. There’s nothing worse than someone who only acts tough with an audience, and that seems to be what’s happening here.
Beyond the reveal of Angel’s identity, Monique was back on television after a long absence. Since leaving The Real Housewives of Potomac, she tried hosting Love & Marriage DC, went through a divorce, started a business selling essential oils, and, surprisingly, seems to have filled her home with animals. Honestly, her house is beautifully designed – the architecture and decor are stunning. But just thinking about all the pet hair she has to clean up gives me anxiety!
Despite all the excitement surrounding her return to Bravo, the moment felt surprisingly flat – as underwhelming as the empty green screen she faced during interviews. She’s been focused on recovery for years since their conflict and has embraced motherhood and a more natural lifestyle. That’s wonderful for her, but I have no interest in revisiting season five, especially without Candiace present. While it was funny to see Gizelle scramble for her stylist when Monique showed up at Ashley’s event, I’d prefer their first meeting to be more meaningful than Gizelle panicking while wearing a shirt that ironically said, “Serving Gizz.”
Honestly, I don’t think this storyline about Stacey and Chris Samuels is relevant to Monique’s return, and it just makes the whole situation feel forced. It’s unclear why anyone should be upset, especially considering Monique wasn’t even aware of some of the existing relationships within the group. This whole conflict feels like a manufactured distraction. While I’m interested in seeing Monique and Gizelle resolve their issues – and it looks like Monique will use the binder as a lighthearted moment – the way they’re bringing her back into the drama, at Ashley’s urging, isn’t working for me. I hope they can move past this unnecessary conflict and focus on the real issues between the women. We’ll see what happens next week when Monique’s return continues.
Cherry Blossoms
Although the show doesn’t have a strong overarching plot, I really enjoy the scenes with Tia’s family. The situation – teenage kids throwing an out-of-control birthday party while their dad tries to manage things and their mom is away on business – feels like something you’d see on Modern Family.
Kiearna and Greg are really pushing the idea that they’ve changed and are doing well, but I’m skeptical. This dad is offering to help them buy a condo, seemingly so they can use it as a weekend getaway spot – it’s a situation SZA actually wrote a song about, and it wasn’t a romantic one. But if Kiearna is okay with it, that’s her choice.
Seeing Wendy and Eddie show off their expensive $100,000 renovation feels a bit off, especially knowing they might be facing financial difficulties soon. Usually, I’d say enjoy your money if you have it, but it seems like they started spending before they were sure they could afford it.
Jassi’s wedding was beautiful, although it seemed like the marriage might not last, despite the lavish spending.
I’m not bothered by the competition between Wendy and Stacey’s food businesses, especially since Wendy’s husband actually owns ‘Happy Eddie’ and Eddie constantly promotes his products on screen. However, if this manufactured drama and Stacey’s claimed Nigerian roots mean we get more scenes of just Wendy and Stacey together, that’s great! Their playful back-and-forth is really entertaining. They’re both aware of what’s going on, and as a tennis fan, I enjoy watching their dynamic – it’s like a fun rally.
