The Punisher Update: TV Special Will Directly Connect to Another MCU Movie

A new rumor suggests the upcoming Punisher TV special will have a direct connection to a future Marvel Cinematic Universe film.

Jon Bernthal will return as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, in a new TV special planned for release in 2026 as part of the sixth phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Reinaldo Marcus Green is directing and wrote the script alongside Bernthal.

What MCU movie will The Punisher TV special be connected to?

Alex Perez, a reporter for The Cosmic Circus, was asked if the upcoming Punisher TV special will mention Spider-Man. This is because Jon Bernthal, who stars in the special, is also appearing in Spider-Man 4, scheduled to come out next July.

“It establishes how he gets to where he is when Brand New Day kicks off,” Perez said.

It’s still uncertain if Tom Holland’s Spider-Man will appear in the upcoming Punisher series. Details about both the Punisher show and the next Spider-Man movie, currently called Spider-Man: Brand New Day, are being kept secret, so this is just speculation for now.

Brad Winderbaum from Marvel Television described the upcoming Punisher special to Entertainment Weekly as a fast-paced, impactful story, full of the emotional depth fans expect from a Frank Castle narrative. He called it a very exciting project.

Alongside Tom Holland and Marisa Tomei, the next Spider-Man movie will feature Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas, Mark Ruffalo, and Trammel Tillman. Currently scheduled for release on July 31, 2026, the film is a collaboration between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures.
