Players used to not worry about how large games were in terms of storage space – they didn’t even consider it, really.
As a Pokémon fan, I’ve noticed that everyone’s always talking about how big game downloads are these days – some games seriously take up half your console’s storage! And of course, Pokémon Legends: Z-A is getting the same treatment, with people already discussing its file size.
New reports (from TopMob) suggest the next game for the Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2 will have a much smaller download size than most games today, and some players are concerned about this.
Pokémon Legends: Z-A Doesn’t Demand You Delete Half Your Library

Pokémon Legends: Z-A comes out in less than a week, and players can now download it onto their Nintendo Switch or Switch 2. This early access lets us see how much space the game takes up.
The game will be 4GB on the original Nintendo Switch. On the new Switch 2, it will be larger at 7.7GB after a day-one update that improves performance and visual quality.
Compared to other major games planned for 2025, like Battlefield 6 (about 70GB), Death Stranding 2: On the Beach (91.6GB), Borderlands 4 (around 30GB), and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (around 40GB), this is relatively small in size.
Actually, the game’s file size is similar to other Nintendo and Pokémon games. Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the first game in this style, only takes up 6.1GB on the Switch, and Pokémon Scarlet & Violet each need about 10GB of storage.
Nintendo’s newest game, Donkey Kong Bananza, is a surprisingly small download at only 8.9GB, and it’s been really well-received. I get why people are concerned about the file size of the upcoming Legends: Z-A, but I don’t think it’s something to worry too much about. Nintendo and Pokémon games are usually a reasonable size, and it shouldn’t require players to delete a lot of other games to make room for it.
