A new trailer for season 2 of The Pitt shows things are about to get even more hectic, especially during the holiday season. Starring Noah Wyle (known from E.R.), the HBO Max medical drama premieres in January 2025 and follows an experienced doctor, Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavi, as he mentors a group of young doctors during a particularly challenging shift at Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Hospital.
Created with a reunion between actor Wyle and E.R. producer R. Scott Gemmill, the HBO Max Original quickly became one of the most acclaimed shows of 2025. It also resonated with audiences, steadily attracting more viewers with each weekly episode, and setting the stage for a second season. The Pitt season 2 will premiere on January 8, 2026.
HBO Max has shared a first look at the beginning of The Pitt season 2. The clip shows Robby starting his day and heading to work, similar to the start of season 1. Though the scene begins with an energetic song and a hopeful feeling, things quickly become chaotic for Wyle’s character as soon as he enters the hospital. You can watch the opening scene below.
Okay, so the next batch of episodes drops over the Fourth of July weekend, and it’s been about ten months since the end of season one. Apparently, the showrunner, James Gemmill, deliberately timed it this way so they could bring Patrick Ball back as Dr. Frank Langdon after his time in rehab. He also gave us a little sneak peek at a new character, who’s going to be played by Sepideh Moafi – you might recognize her from Black Bird. I’m really excited to see how it all plays out!
Baran Al-Hashimi, the new character played by Moafi, is stepping in after Dr. Collins leaves. She used to work with Dr. Mel King and Dr. Samira Mohan at the VA Hospital. The show will also explore some conflict between Robby and Dr. Al-Hashimi, as their different approaches to medicine create tension and drive the plot forward.
| The Pitt Season 2: New Cast Member | Character Name | Character Details |
|---|---|---|
| Sepideh Moafi | Dr. Al-Hashimi | New attending physician. |
| Charles Baker | Troy | Unhoused patient. |
| Irene Choi | Joy | Third-year medical student with strong boundaries. |
| Laëtitia Hollard | Emma | Recent nursing school graduate. |
| Lucas Iverson | James | Fourth-year medical student. |
| Lawrence Robinson | Brian Hancock | Charming patient, with a potential romance subplot. |
| Zack Morris | Jackson Davis | Patient brought in after an outburst in the college library. |
In addition to Moafi, the cast of The Pitt welcomes Charles Baker, Irene Choi, Laëtitia Hollard, Lucas Iverson, Lawrence Robinson, and Zack Morris, as well as several other new and returning actors playing patients. This is a second collaboration for Morris, who previously worked with Isa Briones (who plays Dr. Santos) on the Hulu/Disney+ series Goosebumps.
The show is incredibly popular after winning big at the Emmys. Season 2, called The Pitt, is expected to build on that success, especially since it’s coming out just a year after the first season became a hit. Fans are already excited, and the new trailer has given them plenty to talk about.
