In The Outer Worlds 2, how much violence you encounter is often up to you, and Brigadier Montelli demonstrates this well. He’s the main boss at the Vox Relay Station, and if you fight him before you’re ready, he can be incredibly tough. But, if you prepare carefully, you can actually resolve the situation without fighting at all.
Deciding whether to spare Montelli is a tough choice. You’ve likely witnessed him wrongly execute soldiers, which might make taking his life feel justified. Plus, your actions will affect the rewards you receive, so consider that too.
What Happens If You Kill Brigadier Montelli
The Hard-Line Approach
If you approach Brigadier Montelli unprepared or can’t talk your way through, you’ll be forced to fight him. This battle involves reducing his substantial health while dodging bullets and electrical attacks. To succeed, it’s best to have weapons and ammunition that can inflict negative status effects on Montelli.
Once Montelli is dead, you’ll receive the following rewards:
- 300 XP
- Chainspark Cannon
- Officer Regalia
The Officer Regalia isn’t particularly noteworthy, but the Chainspark Cannon is a powerful weapon. Its Chain Lightning upgrade is especially effective against groups of enemies, particularly those vulnerable to electric damage.
What Happens If You Spare Brigadier Montelli
Do Corbin A Favor
If you want to save Brigadier Montelli, you’ll need to speak with Marshal Corbin at the Vox Relay first. Although Corbin might not be happy to see you, given past events, you can try different approaches to convince him to help. Using the Writ from Vigilant Hogarth is a good option, but you can still get his assistance even if you admit your role in what happened at Horizon Point.
Once you’ve gotten Corbin on your side, check Montelli’s computer and read all of his files. When you talk to him, be careful not to accuse him of anything. When you get the chance, ask him, “These harsh actions weren’t your plan originally, were they, Montelli?” Finally, you’ll need to use a Speech skill level 5 to convince him to stand down.
Although you won’t receive any XP, you’ll still receive the following:
- Chainspark Cannon
- Officer Regalia
You’ll learn more details from Montelli, and Corbin will be friendly towards you.
You Should Spare Brigadier Montelli In The Outer Worlds 2
Nothing To Lose But XP
If you meet the speech requirement, letting Brigadier Montelli live in The Outer Worlds 2 is a good idea. While you do get experience points as a reward, you can easily earn more by fighting raptidons. Since you can get the Chainspark Cannon and Officer Regalia regardless, there’s no benefit to killing either Montelli or Corbin.
Feel free to eliminate Montelli if it fits your character’s goals. However, if you haven’t focused on improving your speech skills, don’t worry about it – it’s not worth altering your gameplay style just for this.
Whatever you choose to do with Brigadier Montelli, you’re guaranteed to get some useful items. It’s a choice in Outer Worlds 2 that depends on how you want to play or what’s most convenient for you.
