The Next Xbox Will Be “High-End” With A “Curated Experience,” Xbox President Says

Even though there’s a lot of speculation online, Microsoft is definitely developing a new Xbox. While the Xbox team isn’t ready to reveal specific details just yet, Xbox President Sarah Bond has given a few hints about what’s coming.

In a recent video interview with Mashable, Xbox head Sarah Bond responded to speculation that the next Xbox will operate much like a gaming PC. She explained that the new console will be a high-quality, carefully designed experience for players.

Bond mentioned that the new ROG Ally handheld is beginning to reflect some of the ideas the Xbox team has been developing, though he didn’t want to reveal too much detail.

Although the Xbox Series X|S hasn’t sold as well as the PlayStation 5, most people would expect Microsoft’s next console to still be a powerful, top-of-the-line device. However, a recent comment about offering a “curated experience” is interesting, especially since it didn’t deny rumors that the new Xbox might function more like a PC.

The team at Xbox has consistently said they’re committed to creating devices specifically designed for great gaming, and the ROG Xbox Ally is a key part of this plan. This new handheld device features the familiar Xbox interface you see on TVs, but it also lets you play games from other PC game stores like Steam. If Xbox were to bring this interface to a traditional console, it would be a unique strategy compared to what other companies are doing.

The Xbox’s full-screen experience clearly needs improvement. Reviewers at TopMob found the operating system on the ROG Xbox Ally to be quite frustrating.

Even if the next Xbox is powerful and offers great features, Microsoft needs to regain the trust of players after recently increasing the prices of Xbox Series X|S consoles and Xbox Game Pass subscriptions.
