People Can Fly, the team behind both Gears of War: Judgment (2013) and Outriders, has announced that they are collaborating with Microsoft’s studio The Coalition on a new project titled Gears of War: E-Day.
As a devoted fan myself, I can’t help but feel honored and thrilled to once again join forces in crafting the next installment of this epic tale, a story that has captivated us all with its intense, gut-wrenching action and intricate narrative. It’s a responsibility I don’t take lightly, and I’m deeply appreciative of the faith and backing our partners have shown us along this incredible voyage.
In the year 2023, People Can Fly disclosed they were developing Project Maverick, a then-secret AAA game in collaboration with Microsoft. Although unverified, there’s strong speculation that Gears of War: E-Day might be Project Maverick. Recently, People Can Fly has also dismissed 120 employees and reduced the scope of Project Bifrost, while putting Project Victoria on hold.
E-Day” is a story that happens 14 years before the first game’s events. It focuses on the initial protagonists, Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago, returning home to discover the Locust army wreaking havoc everywhere. The original voice actors for these characters will reprise their roles in this new installment.
At the Summer Game Fest 2024, it was unveiled that Gears of War: E-Day will be available on both PC and Xbox Series X|S consoles, with an estimated launch date in 2025.
