A new copyright filing suggests details about a major upcoming DC Universe crossover event, hinted at in the finale of Peacemaker Season 2. The season ended with Peacemaker being transported through a portal to a place called “Salvation,” which Rick Flag Sr. intends to use as a prison for superpowered individuals. DC Studios’ James Gunn appears to be drawing inspiration from Salvation Run, a lesser-known 2007 comic series where the U.S. government exiles supervillains to a distant world.
I’m hearing some interesting news out of DC Studios. Knight Edge Media is reporting they’ve trademarked the name “Salvation Run” – and they filed it just days after the Peacemaker Season 2 finale aired! While DC Comics already owns the rights to “Salvation Run” in the comic book world, it seems DC Studios is securing a separate trademark, likely for a potential movie – it could be live-action or animated, they haven’t specified yet. It definitely sounds like they’re developing something new based on that title, and I’m intrigued to see where they take it.
‘Salvation Run’ Will Be Different From the Comics

DC Comics
Although currently just a rumor, Salvation Run seems probable. When James Gunn initially revealed the first slate of DCU projects – Gods and Monsters – he mentioned it only included half of what was planned, to avoid spoiling future storylines. Salvation Run was likely always intended to be part of the plan, but Gunn couldn’t announce it in 2023 because it would have given away the plot that Superman and Season 2 of Peacemaker were building towards.
The comic book storyline Salvation Run featured a war between villains led by the Joker and Lex Luthor, but James Gunn isn’t planning to directly adapt that plot for his series. He was inspired by the core idea of the U.S. government exiling metahuman prisoners to a new world and what kind of society they’d build – a concept originally pitched by Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin. Gunn also confirmed that the series won’t connect to the comic’s storyline involving Darkseid and Apokolips.
As a huge DC fan, I’m really intrigued by what’s going on with Salvation Run. A lot of us think it could be the first big team-up project for the new DCU, maybe even setting the stage for the Justice League! But honestly, knowing James Gunn, I have a feeling it might be more of a sneaky sequel to The Suicide Squad. Imagine seeing characters like Ratcatcher II, Bloodsport, and Harley Quinn return – that would be amazing! There’s even talk that Salvation Run could actually be that Deathstroke and Bane movie we’ve heard about, with those two villains stuck in another dimension trying to survive. Whatever it is, it feels like a really exciting development for the DCU, and it could have a big impact on projects like Lanterns, Supergirl, Clayface, and Man of Tomorrow. I’m definitely keeping a close eye on this one!
