It’s been confirmed that a new series, a spin-off from “The Neighborhood,” featuring Marcel Spears and Sheaun McKinney, is currently being developed by CBS.
If this multi-camera series progresses, it will delve into the lives of characters Marty and Malcolm Butler, as they embark on a new journey leaving their parents’ home behind and moving from Pasadena to Venice Beach. At present, the show is being considered for the 2025-2026 television season, but it has not yet been officially commissioned.
In its seventh season, “The Neighborhood” is airing, with the upcoming spinoff being its second installment. The show features Max Greenfield as Dave Johnson, a white father from Michigan who relocates his family to a predominantly Black neighborhood in LA. His Midwestern politeness doesn’t sit well with everyone, particularly Calvin Butler (played by Cedric the Entertainer). Spears and McKinney portray Marty and Malcolm, Calvin’s sons.
In May, it was revealed that Tracy Morgan would headline a new comedy show on Paramount+, titled “Crutch.” This series is set within the same world as “The Neighborhood,” with Morgan’s character being the cousin of Calvin Butler, portrayed by Cedric the Entertainer. Adrianna Mitchell and Jermaine Fowler are also part of this spin-off series.
Currently, “The Neighborhood” hasn’t been given another season yet, specifically Season 8. In the main storyline, Marty Butler, portrayed by Spears, became a father at the end of Season 6 when he welcomed a baby with Courtney, played by Skye Townsend. However, it’s undecided whether Townsend will appear in the spinoff series that’s being developed.
The developing spin-off featuring Marty and Malcolm has a team of executives overseeing it, led by Bill Martin, Mike Schiff, Cedric the Entertainer, Aaron Kaplan, Wendi Trilling, and Eric C. Rhone.
