Weir’s latest science fiction book, Project Hail Mary, published in 2021, tells another story of a man facing incredible challenges in space. A movie adaptation of Project Hail Mary is scheduled to be released on March 20, 2026.
Starring Ryan Gosling as a teacher-turned-astronaut named Ryland Grace, the highly anticipated 2026 film Project Hail Mary centers on a critical space mission to save humanity. The movie is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, the team behind the popular Spider-Verse films.
Project Hail Mary Has A Lot In Common With The Martian
Although Project Hail Mary isn’t a follow-up to The Martian, the two films share many common elements. Both are based on novels by Andy Weir, and Drew Goddard wrote the screenplays for both. Given the success of The Martian, Goddard’s involvement is a promising sign for Project Hail Mary.
Similar to The Martian, Project Hail Mary stars a well-known actor and benefits from experienced directors. While The Martian may have a slightly stronger supporting cast, Project Hail Mary also features a wealth of talented actors.
Like the movie The Martian, Project Hail Mary is a thrilling space adventure. However, while Matt Damon played a skilled astronaut stranded on Mars due to a failed mission, Ryan Gosling’s character, Ryland, is a former teacher who wakes up on a spaceship without remembering volunteering for the journey.
